The time we all knew would come, but pretended would never arrive, Raef's last episode as a host. Russ and Craig, with the help of the D6G listeners and Mr. Lipton, travel down memory lane with Hollywood and attempt to send him off in style.
And later.. enough with the mushy stuff, it's time for Pirates!! The D6G team takes to the high seas with the latest Games Workshop board game modeling mega-box: Dreadfleet.
All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:
- The Hollywood Minute
- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- & More

Howdy Folks:
I tired a new HWM format. Let me know what you think. I am particularly interested in:
1. Was the pre-game and in game chatter interesting to you or was it too much insider baseball.
2. I cut the segment right when the game got going on purpose, did it leave you wanting to hear more, or were you like meh who cares?
Thanks!

1. Some of it was interesting. Actually very interesting as the Axe Cop is awesome (thanks for that nugget of gold). Other more inside stuff I bet.
2. I might have wanted to hear a bit more perhaps.
The Mr. Lipton segment was cool, though you should have played the pole thing from the past as well .

Sorry to say that I stopped listening to you guys a few months ago. Its nothing personal and I found your podcast to generaly be informative and entertaining but its just that your podcast is more "board game centric" and I'm a table top wargame kind of guy.
Having said that however, I would very much value your opinion as "expert" boardgamers, so what is your general rating of Dreadfleet as a game? Or are you going to make me listen to the full podcast to find out?

Howdy Phantom,
No worries man, we get that not everyone likes everything we cover. And although we may sound like we do board games all the time, we're still pretty hard core miniature gamers as well. Malifaux, Dystopian Wars, and Warmachine are our current likes. (And Raef still plays lots of FoW).
So I'm not sure we are purely "expert boardgamers." We just like to play the field...as it were.
Our opinions on the game Dreadfleet differ a bit between the three of us. You don't have to listen to the whole show to find out our thoughts, just fast forward to the 2 hr 21 min mark in ep 90 to hear us blather on about the game for about an hour.
We always include the time offsets of our various segments in the show notes. So if there is a topic that interests you, you can zip right to it without listening to the whole episode if you don't have time.
Happy gaming,
Russ

HWM -- I enjoyed the banter, and I was cool with where you left off. Although I think an "actual play" session recording might make a nice Lost Chapter or other audio download (maybe at JimmyJango.com).
I really wanted to hear "The Pole" clip as well...

Felt bad about not being on the Facebook and posting messages of thanks to Raef there. Of course if I wasn't a moron I could have called and left a message as well.
In any event it was fitting tribute episode to Raef. I can't say it is a farewell since he will still be a part of things, just not as center stage but I am personally grateful for all he has done and added to the show, and the copy of Rogue Trader and the accompanying letter are still items I treasure (though not in a creepy stalker way in case anyone is worried that I have a shrine in my gaming chamber. It's really more of an alcove but-nevermind). You all have personality traits that we as listeners resonate with; with me Raef resonates with the "I do too much thinking at work and I just want to sit down and play" voice inside me. I look forward to the continued Hollywood Minute bits and did enjoy him getting his gang together although a fuller session would be better as a Lost Chapter as Black Sword suggested. That way we still get to hear your insights and doings from episode to episode.
After listening to the Lost Chapters regarding the future, I am confident that you have a good plan for where the show is going and I think it will be a solid answer for any critics worried that you will go "stale". Considering the personalities of eveyone involved with the show I doubt that could ever happen anyway (no "s").
Finally, did someone say "contest" for a one-time guest host slot?

Hey guys.. thanks for the shoutout for my game Blackwater Gulch I was didn't expect to hear it, should have tuned in earlier.
Once I start getting miniatures produced I can send some your way to review the game. That probably won't be till early next year though.

This episode was exquisite.
Raef will be missed by me and my gaming pals that love D6G. What he brought to the show is impossible to replicate.
Also, I think his tastes brought an important balance to the show.
He brought a silly random optimism that we really enjoy. All by itself it would be toxic, but mixed with the "Gentleman Curmudgeon" and "Jedi Master", it was a great formula.
Also the fact that he liked games that Craig & Russ didnt play (Namely the Euros and FOW) really helped some of us who dont play Privateer Press, Spartan Games and Epic. Raef's reports of gaming and modeling in FOW have inspired us to get FOW campaigns going more than once.
That said, I'm really excited about the future of the D6G
* I think having Dan from Myriad and some of the other designer guests back on for short rotations is a good idea.
* I'd love to have Dieter Lipton back from time to time. Put Myriad Dan, Tom Vasel or John & Cody in the actor's seat.
* I think the Lost Chapter about "Guilty Displeasures" (Book 18?) clearly marks a new chapter for the show. I liked the frank conversations about why Craig and Russ now dislike Privateer Press ( PP) and GW wargames. I think many of us who have been disappointed by these companies/systems can relate to the frank and personal reasons these games no longer meet our needs. I dont want to get all touchy feely, but Craigs admission that he really WANTED to like PP but it wasnt doing it for him hit me very close to home.
Any way we could get a lost chapter of you guys playing a new hotness boardgame and sharing your opinions at the end? Could be lost chapter material.
I would similarly like to hear actual play or a turn summary (AAR-style) battle report of a minis game broken down by turn with photos you can post in dakka.
I think its sadly ironic that the shows with Raef leaving (really a very sad moment for fans of the show) have been some of your best.
Great work, and we look forward to the next show!

Finally got caught up! Another great show guys, and a fitting finale for Raef as a regular host.
The Dreadfleet review was, as always, excellent. I am still very much interested in trying this game sometime; I need to get my ships off the sprues and onto the table!
As for the HWM, I thought it was pretty cool, although I do wish that there were some of the game session itself as well. To be honest, some of my favorite segments you guys have done have been your recorded RPG sessions.
Looking forward to the big surprise that was hinted at for Episode 91!
