hi guys, i know everybody pretty much uses regal blue and ultra blue in some combination on their ultramarines, but a lot of the models seem to have a faint hue of enchanted blue on the gw models, such as this rhino below:
how do you guys think it was painted? any help would be very much appreciated, and if you had to guess a combo outside of regal blue/ ultramarines (though it may include those colors) what mix would you guess was used, thanks

Maybe enchanted and ultra with ultra for the highlights.

I suspect the 'eavy metal team doesn't limit themselfs to GW colours. Just like food companies don't use real food to make they're comercials

It has been varified by John Hurt that the Ultramarines are indeed the greatest space marine chapter.

This.

Working on my first Space Marine, I've been going mad trying to figure out how the GW guys got the look they did, going through tutorial after tutorial and learning as much as I can to figure out their process.

At the end of the day, you just have to appreciate that they're selling a product and presenting it in the best possible (if unachievable) light they can. It's the same reason I don't return a Big Mac at McDonalds because it doesn't look like this:

The studio artists actually infuse the background fluff into a special blue for use ONLY on ultra models. Its called "Self Entitled Blue"
In actuality it's probably regal mixed with enchanted, then ultra at the high end.

I once read that the 'eavy metal team only use citadel paints and as much gw stuff as possible. They even use those citadel professional series (some name like that anyway) brushes they sold as a set a while ago.

Have you checked out the article on the GW website about painting Ultramarines?

The rarefied atmosphere

Well, personally on my librarian I used Vallejo ultramarine blue (from the game colour line which is designed to emulate gw colours) and then did an asuryman blue wash on it. looks great and is super easy. the vallejo covers very well.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Thank God you pointed this out, the OP clearly has never heard of the Ultramarines' complimenting GW color...
