IF a character / model / unit or whatever has 1+ armor save and get attacked by, let's say S4, would that mean that 1+ armor save is then treated as a 2+ armor save ( even though no matter what the save can only pass on a 2+ even unmodified)?

I'm asking because a unit that has 1+ armor save still needs to roll a 2+ to save. So I want to make sure that the modifier is affecting the 1+ and not the needed roll of a 2+. Big difference between a S4 effecting a 1+ into a 2+ and a 2+ into a 3+.

Also, the rules state a roll of 1 will always fail. Does that mean fail as in it should be rerolled or fail as in you take a wound?

I hope I explained that as best I could. =( Any help on this question would really be welcome.

In short, yes. Even though 1's always fail, a 1+ save is the difference between getting a full 2+ save versus S4 attacks, and getting a 3+ versus the same attack.

1+ armor:
Strength 1 to 3, saves on 2's, because 1's always fail (as in take a wound, not re-roll).
Strength 4 you'd save on a 2+, because S4 is save -1.

In effect, 1+ armor and 2+ armor work the same against anything strength 3 or less.

If you've got a super gear combo that would give you a better save than 1+, it still counts as 1+.
(7th edition allowed 0+, or even negative 1+ saves, 8th does not).

Roll of a 1 for armour save is ALWAYS a failed save - so if you have a rerollable armour save of 1+ / 2+ you would be forced to reroll, and another 1 would be a wound. If you dont have a rerollable armour save then you would just take a wound.

Best you coudl get, iirc, was -2+ save on an Oldblood, cold one, enchanted shield.
