With the new Necrons imminent, I figure I might as well start painting my collection of 2nd edition necrons. Here's the test models I've been working on:

One on the right is the first, and the left the second. I wasn't really feeling the black gun so I tried out the red one after seeing something similar in the new White Dwarf. I think it fits a bit better. Still getting the hang of layering; I'm not really seeing the color gradients I want but then again I'm not really sure how those are supposed to look in real life.

I'm not really happy with the bases; I never really get the hang of drybrushing them and I need to research how to do martian bases all over again. Does anyone know of a good method for doing Mars style bases? A nice ferrous wasteland is what I'm looking for.

Our photobooth is pretty awful right now and maybe I'll be able to take a good photo once I fix it up. We need a gray background, I think.

Nice colour scheme and contrasts well with the base, maybe you could get some powdered iron oxide or similar like a weathering powder for easy basing? They look good, I was thinking either a base like that or lava for my Iron Hands.

Aha - i have a similar lot of Necron Raiders waiting for the new Codex. I'm hoping our old-style Destroyers make nice Jetbikes.

Love the colour scheme, particularly the red gun. I think the red base is good, but you could make it pop a bit more if the rim of the base was a different colour...

Hi MasterSlowPoke !
Nice old school models. Good to see that the new releases pushed you to paint V2 'crons.

The color scheme is nice, mixing white and metal works good. I have to say that I prefer the red gun.

Concerning your "Mars" bases, I have tried to paint some lately. Maybe it helps.
I made several trials on resin bases, including Mars type. See the one in the middle. If this is the type of results that you're looking for, I can tell you what colors I used.

Yeah, ArbitorIan, I'm not feeling the Dark Flesh base rim. I think I'm going to try Graveyard Earth on the next one. It may be the color GW uses in all their bases but I've somehow avoided using it in my years of hobbing.

Minus, those bases do look ace. It definitely can't hurt to see how you did it!

Looks awesome! Although im very happy that we have the new models instead of these. Gotta say, not a huge fan of the design. They dont look as technologically advanced or as menacing in my opinion but hey, a 'Cron is a 'Cron.

Happy if you like it. If it can help you (or anyone else), these are the colors used on a black undercoat.
For the rocks :
Scab red - Calthan brown - Bestial brown - Orange - Orange + bleached bones - Bleached bones

And for the sand :
Scab red - Calthan brown - Bestial brown - bleached bones

I think that the Calthan brown step is useless and skipping it shouldn't change the result much. Concerning the technic, it's just brushing, with each color applied on a smaller surface than the previous one.
