Subject: Converting Obliterators and Hive Guard/Tyrant Guard

Ghastly Grave Guard
|
Hi guys, I was hoping to get some advice on converting Obliterators for CSM and Hive Guard into Tyrant Guard and vice versa.
To start with the Obliterators... I recently acquired (via eBay) some CSM Terminator models and want to convert one or two (after I strip the paint and glue) into Obliterators. However, these models didn't come with the full sprues and bits - only with what the models were currently equipped with (this means mainly lightning claws, in my case). I started looking around on bits sites on eBay for other guns and realized something that I hadn't known until now - it seems that almost all (if not completely all) gun arms are only made for one side of the body! I was hoping to get two gun arms for the Obliterators. Anyway, long story short... any advice?
And the Hive Guard... I suppose I'm just wondering how different the Hive Guard and Tyrant Guard models are, and how easily one can represent the other and/or be converted into each other. They're sold as separate models, so...
Thanks for the help guys! I'm a conversion noob.

your gonna have to do some greenstuff work to convert Obliterators. You can try what I did for this scratch made Nrugle Obliterator. Made the arms from whatever I had as a frame, i think Assault Marine arms. Pile d Greenstuff on it and shoved a bunch of spare weapons I had. Hope that helps alittle.

Green stuff is just unmixed modeling putty that, once mixed together, hardens after you let it sit... right? How hard does it get? As hard as a plastic model? I've never used it before.

Remember Obilerators have a power fist so you will need to model this if you play wysiwyg
I made my latest one from a finecast captain stern model
Green stuff is the key to adding the flesh.

Both of those look great - looks like I'll have to get some green stuff and round up all of my spare guns.

Any insight on hive guard or tyrant guard? Or do most people just eat the ridiculous cost and buy the models?

You could beef up a warriors squad with converted guns and GS their torsos to make them bulkier.

hive guard and tyrant guard look similar. Hive are more upright and ranged, tyrant are hunkered down and coovered in armor from front and top. As mentioned, cheapest is to convert these from plastic warriors. filing down the leg joints and filling with GS allows you to repose them pretty easy, though the head will require some work. You might have more luck with second-hand brood lords as memory says they have the right bulk and the right size... ....trick is they have way the wrong pose.. Converting old metal biovores might also be an option.

It doesn't matter how bloody far the apple falls from the tree. If the apple fell off of a Granny Smith, that apple is going to grow into a Granny bloody Smith. The only difference is whether that apple grows in the shade of the tree it fell from. |
