Hei there,

I previously had a thread here asking for advice for a new vanilla SM army (thx for the help with this to you that replied). Now I have gotten some more battles under my belt and would like some feedback on this new list. The aim is to have an ok starting point for an upcoming tournament = it should be able to take on most enemy armies with relative succes (ignoring my competence, or the lack hereof, as a general).

HQ
Librarian, Null zone, Gate of infinity (goes with the sternguard in the razorback)

Troops
Tactical squad (10), Flamer, ML, Rhino, Meltabombs

Scout squad (10), Sniper rifles, Heavy bolter

Elite
Dreadnought, 2xTLAC
Dreadnought, 2xTLAC
Sternguard vet squad (5), Razorback, 5xCombimeltas

Fast attack
Land speeder, Heavy flamer, MM

Heavy support
Vindicator Siege shield
Vindicator Siege shield

What do you think?

I think it's pretty good, in fact I only have a couple of comments.

melta bombs on the tactical squads are not brilliant, you have enough anti tank elsewhere so it shouldn't be an issue.

Try and get Telion for the scouts, he is the best thing about a sniper scout squad, and gives them all stealth. (note this will require dropping some scouts)

Not sure why gate of infinity for the librarian if they've got transport anyway though.

Other than that it looks good.

looks solid. Never really that sure about sternguard in a rhino/razor - their the first thing i'd target.

That aside I second the comment on the meltabombs, but yeah, defo a reliable list

Strike Force Serpentine: 3000
Kabal of the Annihilated Souls: 3000
Red Corsairs: 2500
Knights of Titan: 2000
Waagh Wazzdakka 2000

I like the idea of having the razorback with the dreads. They all have the same speed and av sits really well with me.
However deepstriking will not get you into melta distance, nor will trying to rush a razorback forward.
Either drop pod or rhino would be my preference. If in a rhino I would slightly adjust the set up, like having two full meltaguns.
Or another TLAC dread.

I would go for camo cloaks for the scout squad, as such I would also want Telion.

Thanks for the replies guys (and gals perhaps),

MFletch: I am sorry, but I am not sure I completely understand your post except the last part about the cloaks. if I put the sternguard in a pod, where would you suggest putting the libby?

But... lets try dropping the meltabombs and 5 scouts while adding Telion and camocloaks (x4 as Telion cant have one) and changing the power on the libby

Librarian, Null zone, Force dome

This leaves me with 13 points left. Can these be used better than 2xmeltabombs on the tacs + stormbolter for the libby?

Either drop pod or rhino would be my preference.Put the lib in the drop pod to use nullzone close the enemy, he will may stay alive and might keep the guard alive if they are charged If in a rhino I would slightly adjust the set up, like having two full meltaguns.

Just to trying to get my point across . Just smile and nod and walk away politely .

The only real issue I see is a lack of ranged suppression fire against vehicles with high armor (IE Predators and Land Raiders). Your Rifleman Dreads will deal with Rhinos without much trouble, but I worry about the rest of your list being able to cause damage to AV14 at range. You have plenty of Melta, but I wonder if changing out the Vindicators for Auto-Las Predators wouldn't give you a bit more ranged suppression fire against things like Pred Spam or Land Raiders/Battle Wagons.

I guess it depends on your meta and who you play against primarily. Just a thought.

Do you ever tackle av14 at range? Maybe if you have lances or plenty of lascannons.

Otherwise how do orks ever win? You can ignore landraiders they are expensive and you can the sides of leman russes or the landspeeders can fly round the back.
