Hi,
Jo-Jo over at Warseer found this:
After a trip into my local store today, I was told as I brought a pack of green stuff that it was to be discontinued, as liquid green stuff was to replace it. I personally cannot see how liquid green stuff can replace regular, but GW clearly thinks it can.

If you look at GW's website http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat470007a&rootCatGameStyle=paints-tools , you'll notice that green stuff has been removed.

Still there

No its not.
That came up under 'temp misc products', and screws up if you try to add it to your cart.

Whilst I've sourced my greenstuff from elsewhere for a while now, I think this is a very odd move by GW. Some things that GW make just can't be used without fixing them with greenstuff (Krootox, looking at you!).

Mini77 wrote:I was told it was being repackaged (as is everything else on the 'temp misc products' page).

xxRavenxx wrote:I too wondered if this was the case. The static grasses all vanished from trade sales for 2-3 weeks while they moved them into square boxes. (Really handy for standing minis on to grass them, incidently. I do approve...)

Fact is that you can't buy GW Greenstuff online ATM. I also think that there is just some repackaging going on, but you never know. Last week, my store got Greenstuff but no sand.

Can't say I'm too bothered by this, GW has always charged far too much for green stuff. It is only repackaged kneadatite after all.

Erm, why not just buy kneadatite? Its the same product (which GW repackages) and for the same price you'll get a lot more of it!

I 2nd Kneadatite, and its much cheaper.

It is the product that GW repackages as Greenstuff.

It's a mystery to me why in 2011 sculptors still use plumbers epoxy anyway. Obviously it's possible to overcome it's limitations, but the real question is why hasn't a suitable replacement been developed that's not a total hassle to use? Some variant of Sculpey or something?

There is a very good replacement that has been out for a long time.

GW charges (charged?) about $12 for approx. 20g of green stuff. You can get 100g for $15 from online retailers. Even my LGS has the tubes available for <$20.

I always preferred the big rods of it you can get from other companies. I think I got my last batch from gale force 9 like 3 years ago and I still haven't used it all..

Where's a good place to source kneadatite?

I've been buying it from Wayland games but is there a better way to get it?

Wow. I might have to order some of that. My main issue with green stuff is the short working time if I want to sculpt detail, which that solves. Cheap too.

Yeah for the amount you get in those tubs it is way cheaper than greenstuff. I have seen a lot of really professional looking stuff sculpted from Apoxie Sculpt. Heck my Cerebore was mostly made from it:

Why would anyone buy Green Stuff at GW anyway if they needed any real quantity? It's heavily marked up after repackaging. You can get a lot more Kneadatite (Green Stuff) for your money by purchasing the full sized ribbon or the two parts separate in a tube (best way to get it) from a lot of other places.

My preferred vendor is The War Store (www.thewarstore.com)

OMG, greenstuff has been removed from the GW store!

This can *only* mean that will be seeing the green stuff 2.0 wave release, coming soon!

Has warhammer world also removed it's green stuff from the cabinets? This is definitely a sign.

It's about time if you ask me, green stuff hasn't had a new release in decades, and still doesn't have a codex!

I mean, sure we get expansions and things like the liquid varient, but these don't solve the issues with the standard ribbon stuff.

Last time GW just repackaged it and raised the price without giving us anything new, while competitors like super sculpey released a superior product for cheaper. The new awesome GW green stuff 2.0 will set things straight.

I only use the liquid green stuff for filling in cracks where model halves merge, but that's about it.

I've heard its also used moreso for Failcast models.

I get my bulk green stuff from other sources, more in quanity, cheaper in price.

Green Stuff is really for sculpting, not gap filling, though it works extremely well for both because of that. Good model filler (Squadron Putty is one) has been available for years, GW is late to the game with their "liquid green stuff".

News just in from the GW website:

Blue Stripe
6" of the blue stuff for £6

Yellow Stripe:
6" of the yellow stuff for £6

Definitely a good move for GW as they are a business and they have to make profits

Really? I'm fairly certain it was hyperbole used to make a point, not actual news.
