So I'm thinking of making an Ogre Kingdoms army and I am wondering what are the must have units?

Basically what makes a good 2500 point list?

I've heard that ironblasters are good. Should I take both a stonehorn AND a thundertusk? Are mournfang cav any good?

And what sort of character builds are good.

I'm not looking for WAAC, but competitive would be nice.

4 Mourfang with heavy armor, IFs and Dragonhide Banner
1-2 units of 4-6 leadbelchers
2 Ironblasters

That's pretty much it, I like Bulls with IFs others like them hand weapons, some prefer Iron Guts. Firebellys are solid as are Butchers, SMs are nice so are Tyrants and BSB bruisers. Maneasters are very versitle, saw a 1k game yesterday where the sniped out a vampire lord turn 2 and the army started to crumble. But the 3 above are very solid.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

You don't need leadbelchers, but they're good. You don't need mournfangs, but they're good. The only must have's are either bulls or ironguts. I'd say two monsters might be a bit overkill, and a lot of points.

They can be shooty or magicy or infantry stompy or charactery or monstery or whatever combination.

Make an army you want to play. There's no real must-haves, though I'd say at 2500pts you're going to want a Bruiser with a BSB and a big name, because Ogres don't have the greatest LD and you're never going to be steadfast.

4 fangs ha if banner musician dhide banner is so awesome they just destroy.

Ironblaster totally worth it. It's a chariot with an ogre and a cannon.

The tusk seems more useful with ogres being initiative 2 so theywould strike first then in most cases which makes a huge difference.

Bulls need em can't go any where without em.

Ironguts are nice for the magic banner.

Personally I run 1 blaster and 5 leadies.

I think fangs are by far one of the best if not the best unit in the book.
The impact hits and a pile of high str attacks and stomps rocks.

But ya bulls and ig

I give my bruiser a ward and a weapon to make him go at initiative 10 for kicks.

The sm has crown of command and the trickster helm and the dragonbane gem re roll to wound and 2+ ward against flaming.

Firebelly withgw and hellheart works pretty solidly.

Well obviously you need core and bulls and iron guts are very effective. IMO get 2 battalions, 2 boxes of mourfang, 2 ironblasters then decide from there.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Bulls or Ironguts: up to your personal preference, but I prefer Bulls for survivability.

Ironblasters: You would be a fool if you didn't take these guys. They are insanely good and fill a vital niche in the Ogre army.

Mournfangs: You can build a list without these guys, but why would you? only 2+ armor in the army book, only cavelry that can Parry, they are the fastest and hardest hitting cavelry in the game(Bretts are just as fast, but not as killy. Chaos Knights are just as killy, but not as fast) their survivability is increase massivly by the Dragonhide Banner(it takes ~450 attacks from Str3 high elves to kill 1 mournfang)

Sabretusks: Ultimate redirectors/Warmachine hunters/Charge Blockers.

Leadbeltchers: much better then last book. Good and solid, but hardly needed. You can certaintly pass them up if you want.

Stonehorn: Perfect combat support for Bulls or Ironguts. Charge it in alongside a block of ogres and it will help them win combat by a massive amount.

Thundertusk: I am not convinced its better then the Stonehorn. it has its ASL aura which is best at short range, but it also has a bunch of ranged attacks. slightly contradictory in its benifits if you ask me. Still good though.

Tyrant: Sadly, this guy's hayday seems past. With Slaughtermasters able to be the general, increasing in price, and the near mandatory requirement for a Lvl4 spell caster means the SM just edges him out.

Slaughtermaster: He became more expensive, but the need for a lvl4 is still high. and with the new ability to take Magic Armor he can survive much longer, especially combined with the Lore Attribute of Gutmagic. Also gives us an Arcane Item slot to use.

Butcher: Access to Lore of Beasts makes these guys very good. 1 or 2 of them with the Beast Sig spell make for a formidible buffing powerhouse, they also give us an Arcane slot for hellheart and dispel scroll.

Firebelly: OMGWTFBBQ!!! about sums it up. Breath Weapon, Flaming attacks(including his impact hits) means we can reliably negate regeneration. Its another Arcane slot too. Fire is a good lore too.

Hunter: Sadly, he still sucks pretty hard. Only Hunter thats worth considering is one mounted on a Stonehorn, and only in an army built around Stonehorns.

Debatable of course.

Ironblasters look stupid as poo, however.
