Hi,
I am kinda new to orks and I am wondering if you warlords can give me a bit of a hand with my future army list.. please comment to improve
(Don't be tooo harsh javascript:emoticon(':\'(')
Here it is:
HQ
Ork warboss with p/k, twin linked shoota, cybork body and eavy armour
Elites
5 Burna boys
10 lootas
5 Nobz with eavy armour and waagh! banner
Troops
21 slugga boyz with p/k nob boss pole
21 slugga boyz with p/k nob boss pole
21 shoota boyz with nobboss pole
10 grots with runtherd and grot prod
Fast attack
6 stormboyz with big choppa nob
6 bikes with P/K nob
or
6 stormboyz with big choppa nob
3 bikes with P/K nob
3 deffkotas with bigbomms and T/L rokkit launchers
Heavy support
3 Killa kans with 2 rokkit launchers and 1 custom mega blasta
Dedicated transport:
1 trukk with grot riggers
Total: around 2000pts
So, what do you think?
My plan is to put my boss, nob retinue and burna boys in the trukk, drop the boos and his nobz in front of the enemy and make the rest do the burny dance while my burnas flame the enemy. On the other side of the board, my stormboys will be diving through cover and then get a grips with my enemies slower units. My grots will provide cover for my boys as they charge over open ground and my Kans will take out heavies and get into combat if needed. Then my bikes/deffkoptas can be upgraded and fitted in where I need them.

Id advise making two squads of 30 seeing how Ork leadership is bad, and by turn 2 or 3 at least 20 or so of them will get stuck in. Have a single trukk isn't the greatest idea because its your only vehicle with paper thin armour, drop the trukk and keep your boss and nobs on foot and hide them behind the boyz or grots to get a 4+ cover save. Do the nobs have any big choppas or Power Claws? those weapons are deadly when it comes to CC. drop the storm boyz], Storm Boyz are good if they are in a squad of 15, anything less makes them weak and vulnerable (there a more expensive boy with a rokkit that can potentially kill them :(. 3 Bikes will get killed very easily even with their 4+ cover save. squads of 9 are good though. Split your copters into squads of one and use them as 1st turn Scout suicide tank killers and drop the bigbomm on all them and attach buzzsaws for tank killing (I know 3 pie plates sound good, but if you have a look at their stats, once per game use and has a good chance of scattering and not doing anything.)
My number 1 tip is pick a theme and stick with it
Green Tide-4-6 squads of 30 man boy squads with nob sarg with Power claw and boss pole attached (its better to add shootas to footslogging boyz but I like using sluggas and choopas for fotsloggers (4 attacks on the charge is crazy good in my eyes) while have 1-2 Big Meks with KFF for 5+ cover saves.
Speed Freaks-Lots of Bikes, Copters, Buggies, and trukking boyz to get across the field quick
Battlewagon Rush-3+ battle wagons with 20 man squads in side of them (Their tougher and more killyer then a trukk and can carrier more of the ladz)... more points though while using a KFF to give them a 4+ vehicle obscured save
I run a green tide list with some variation of my own fun . I'll show you mine for an example
HQ:
Ghaz Thraka
Big Mek
KFF
Troops:
30 Boys-Nob, BP, PK, 3 Rokkits
30 Boys-Nob, BP, PK, 3 Big Shootas
30 Boyz-Nob, BP, PK, 3 Big Shootas
30 Boyz-Nob, BP, PK
9 Nobs-Painboy, Cybork Bodies, Waaagh Banner, 3 PKs, 6 BCs, TL shoota, shoota combi flamer
Heavy Support:
Looted Wagon-Skorcha, Big Shoota, RPJ
Looted Wagon-Skorcha, Big Shoota, RPJ
Battle Wagon-Big Shoota, RPJ, Armour plates (Big Mek Go's 'ere)
Dedicated Transport:
Battle Wagon-Big Shoota, RPJ, Armour plates (Ghaz and Nobs go 'ere)
Good core of boyz with a nice deathstar unit to kill the Big stuff with heavy flamers supporting the deathstar.
Now I'm not telling you to take this list . But this is just a roadmap to show you what a fun but semi-competitive list looks like . This is a 1850pt list though, and if you were to chose this list I'd advise not using the looted wagons (not the greatest thing in the world, but I love runing heavy flamers around. But use lootas instead to support your marching horde.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I agree, I reckon I should stick with a firm army theme, but I got the stormboys for my birthday from relatives in England and it would be kind of a waste to not use them... Also, I do not get much allowance and Games Workshop can be VERY expensive... An does my nob squad need more than one P/K? Isn't that called over kill?

Seeing how you got the stormboyz for a present, use them, I would . Build on them though ;D (A 15 man squad can put some major hurt on to a unit, but be careful of what type of unit your assaulting with them.) 3 PKs in a 10 man nob unit is good (strength 9 insta kill hit on the charge is mmhmmm tasty) stick with the Waaagh Banner, those things are a must . Don't worry about buying a bunch of models all at once, GW prices are insane. Your better getting them off friends or at bring and buy tables at conventions for examples. But if GW is the only good way of getting models, then buy form them . Make a year plan. I'll save up so much money for this many models, and so on
What type of ork army theme are you interested in. Stormboyz fit nicely into a green tide list
heres an example green tide list off Dakka

Nice! didn't think of that before . It is a good list, but the question is, if I face a space marine army with a couple of raiders, will koptas and lootas be enough to take them down? Other than that, I love the idea of lots 'o' lootas. Also, thanks for the link. But it might take me a little while to read it
I want to buy the ork boxed set after I get some christmas money. I has 20 boys, 3 bikes and a trukk ( that was where I was gonna get the bikes and trukk in my original list ). But now I'm not so sure... It saves lots of money, but now I don't know if it will help me competitively
Anyway, by the time I get 2000pts, my orks should be rolling over those umies!

when it comes to Landraiders, just ignore them and play around them. BUT if their crusaders or redeemers, this is where your boss with str10 PK hits come in ;D. Koptas are useful for poping rhinos and whirlwinds and well anything with back armour 10 .
For the list I... listed, you only need 30 more boyz. The Big Mek with KFF, 10 more stormboyz and 19 lootas . This will still be alot in GW prices but search around on ozzy ebay or ask some friends . Christmas is soon anyways! HAHA!

Thanks for your help. Your logic is spot on, only my dad isn't to hot on buying me/me buying GW figurines cos there so expensive. So, this Christmas, I am hoping my relatives in England will bail me out . Only this time I'll make sure they know what I want. Also, what is your opinion on bringing kans to the table? If I arm them with rokkit launchers I can use them for tank busting or cc.

Sure. Currently I have 40 slugga boyz with 2 P/K Nobs and 4 big shootas. I have 6 stormboys including a big choppa nob. I have 3 deffkoptas ( which I could potentialy convert to bikes if need). 5 nobs and a warboss. I also have 2 nobs waiting to be assembled and 10 grots. Sorry about not being clear

Kans.. Id give them a 7/10 in general play, but If your making a Kan Wall list (9 Kill Kans and 1 Deffdread) Id give a 10/10. See with a Kan wall list, you need to max out on Kans (9) and take a deffdread or 2 as troops choice. Because In a can wall list you'll have 2 big meks (which have the ability to field one deffdread as troops choice for each Big Mek you field) with KFF's to give your cans 4+ cover saves. Once you have 9 Kans, deffdread(s) and Big Meks then you start trying to max out on boys, and if you have points spare. Lootas Automatically Appended Next Post: Grotzookas are fun to play with on Kans, 2 Blast plates at str6 and AP 5. You'll make guardsmen cry with those.
But Looking at the models you have currently Id suggest building around them, e.g Green tide and the list I listed above, and if you want to bump that list up to 2000 points. more lootas or some nobs wont hurt ;D

This is my new list:
Horde Style: around 2000 Points
HQ
Warboss
Cybork Body, Power Klaw, Attack Squig
Big Mek
shokk attack gun, Cybork Body
Elites
10 Lootas
10 Lootas
Troops
30 Ork Boyz
Sluggas, 2 rokkit launchers, 1 big shoota, PK Nob w/ Bosspole
30 Ork Boyz - 250 Points
Sluggas, 3 big shootas, PK Nob w/ Bosspole
20 Ork Boyz - 250 Points
Shootas, 3 Rokkit Launchas, PK Nob w/ Bosspole
10 grots
runtherd and grot prod
7 nobz
with bosspole,2 P/K and 'eavy armour
Fast Attack
11 Storm Boyz
PK Nob w/ Bosspole
Deff Kopta
TL Rokkit, Buzzsaw
Deff Kopta
TL Rokkit
Possible ideas?
3 kans with 1 grotzooka and 2 kustom mega blastas
trukk with 5 burna boyz
So, I got more boyz, dropped the bikes, put my warboss and retinue on foot and BAM. Thats around 2000pts
I think for the time being I should keep my stormboyz on with a big choppa until I get more of them. Because I really don't want to spend 25pts for a P/K in a unit that's fragile and might not last.

I like it! But just a few pointers
1. Big Mek with SAG can work out in your favor quite nicely, but you also have a 1 and 12 chance of killing your self and other around you. The Kustom Force Field is generally the way to go because it gives 5+ cover saves to your footsloggers and 4+s to your vechiles
2. Good Idea with the Storm boyz, when your get a bigger squad then apply the PK
3. Good choice with the nobs, but try and get a painboy in there somewhere, and attach cybork bodies to all your nobs, he gives 4+ feel no pain and 5+ invuerable saves on all your nobs if you attach cybork bodies.
Dont worry about the trukk atm. If you only have one trukk, it will get picked off easy by bolter fire or the odd rockit launcher. Burnas are really good in squads of 15 and when you have 3 squads of them, then put each squad in a battlewagon and thats a deadly combanation. Then have Boys and Big Meks to fill out points. But the list you have now will do

So get a painboy for nob squad (does this give my warboss a feel no pain as well if he joins the squad?)
Also, with the KFF, dosen't it only give you a six inch forcefield protection? And I can always have my grots as a 4+screen cover.

The current army right you listed right there is about 1580pts. 80 boys is and good boy count for the many points, but in any green tide player, you always have to keep this in mind "Boyz before toys" just means for example, should I add this BW for this many points or can I add another 30man boyz squad with rokkitlanchas and nob PK leader Automatically Appended Next Post: Ahh see with the KFF, it works as a bubble effect, so even just barely touches one member of the squad, THE WHOLE squads get it... love it .
Yes your warboss does get feel no pain as well
Grots are useful for two things. Using them as a shield for 4+ cover saves when the KFF is to far away. Then as a objective reserve camper. You hold them in reserve till turn 5 then come on and take the objective that is in ur deployment zone (Capture and Control)

Ok the first sentence worries me. Do you plan on putting both the Nobs and Boss along with the Burnas in the same trukk? If that is the plan, which I think it is as you don't have 2 trukks. You can't do that. Only one squad can go in any transport along with any IC attached.
As for the list. Your second one is much better. The Lootas are an awesome choice to give a much needed support fire. I have never been a fan of gretchin but thats a personal taste. If you are doing the horde/green tide feel I think it is getting there. I like Stormboys, but you might need more. But honestly I think it is a pretty solid list and you should give it a try or two to really see what it miught be missing.
Good Luck!

To paratrooper simon: I now officially love that rule . This means I can cover 1 (maybe 2) ork boy squads and my grot cover line as well.
Painboy is a essential.
I know I need lots of boyz in a foot slog, but their are so many options and good miniatures to choose from (eg. Kans)...darn you games workshop And with this list, I can spend another 500 or so pts on nobz, stormboys or even more boyz.
I have already put lootas on my christmas 'list' and will be dropping plenty of hints about my relatives in England buying them
Oh and what is with the warboss on a bike? wouldn't he need a personal body guard of at least three nob bikers?

I hate it when I don't have much time for dakka :/
Some solid advice from Simon, and Balsak is someone I'd like to face....he brings a wealth of ork experience to the threads.
Read the Ork tacticas, they'll help you. I don't agree with all positions on units, but local meta and personal strategies and tactics will affect your own ratings.
Stormboyz work best with mechanized/speed freek lists, IMO. With particularly large point battles, they add more boyz to the field for green tides, but point for point, you're probably better with kommandos after the initial 180 boyz....that and they won't clutter up your lines of advance.
Concerning your latest list:
Your 20 boyz with shootas cannot have 3 rokkit launchas, only 2(1 per 10 boyz).
Are the grotz for attaching to your big mek, or held in reserve to run and grab an objective?
Try to diversify your nobz so you can allocate wounds. I sometimes run a 10 nob squad(overkill for many but not some of my local opponents). Last game, on my turn I took out a demon prince and 5 CSM.....his turn I wiped out the CSM. Took 4 or 5 wounds all allocated to different nobz, and wow.....still at "full" strength to assault the next group of CSM. Wound allocation can be a pain in your enemy's rear. The way you listed them.....is that one 'eavy armor, or the whole squad? If it's the whole squad, you may want to consider a painboy upgrade instead. Many shooting weapons that would deny a 4+ armor save will still have to face a FNP, and pretty much anything that will ignore FNP would ignore the 4+ armor save anyway. If you have the points, give them cybork.
Anyways, you had another question concerning KFF's and your grots. You attach the KFF Big Mek to a unit of boyz so he can't be picked off. The boy only get a 5+ cover save, BUT if they're behind the grots(who if close enough will now have a 5+ cover save), the boyz get a 4+. Even better, behind Kanz(who would be obscured from a KFF getting their own 4+), they would still get a 4+ cover and kanz don't run like grots after getting shot up.
I like green tides, but I like kan walls more, it's just a modified green tide, honestly.
FYI, single rokkit koptas aren't very effective, IMO. I believe the reason it was taken in the list shown was so the warboss on a warbike could be attached to it, and as a unit would have T6 when shot at......just to toughen the delivery system for the warboss, presumably to pop vehicles.

For Magenwolf: Warboss on Bike works much better with 5-10 nob bikers be his side, and make sure to give all the nobs diff wargear for wound allocation. But all that is very... very expensive in points.
To Brother Tarn: I'm not one for Kommandos. There just expensive boys who can take burnas and die quickly. And Stormboys work much much better in a tide list. They tie up devastators on turn two or possibly even turn 1. While your boys make it to the enemies line with out a lot of harm done to them... Hopfully .
Back to Magen wolf: Your list sounds good and now start to save and work towards it and begin to play to see what needs tweeks and such Automatically Appended Next Post: Brother Taurinus wrote: FYI, single rokkit koptas aren't very effective, IMO. I believe the reason it was taken in the list shown was so the warboss on a warbike could be attached to it, and as a unit would have T6 when shot at......just to toughen the delivery system for the warboss, presumably to pop vehicles.
I can see you and me butting heads on ork tactics ;D. Single Rokkit koptas IMO are very effective... If you have the 1st turn of course. Scout 24" Move 12-28" shoot your TL rokkit launcha at the back armour of a rhino with a full tact squad in it, whirlwind, or predator and if that doesent work. You got 3 attacks on the charge at Str 6 or mabye even 7 if koptas have Furious Charge... Im sure they do... dont have my book handy.

Actually, not as much as you think. Single rokkit koptas(the 45 point one in his list) are what I'm referring to. Suicide koptas, or buzzkoptas( TL-rokkits and buzzsaw) are much more effective. It is S7, they get the furious charge. I've pointed out before that they are great for predators and vindicators or the like.....I just hate trading them for 35 point transports Trust me, I'll take a 55% chance at a S8 hit and 3 auto-S7 hits given the chance.

Nah, they're good, and for severely horrible use of points and sheer annoyance, I've been contemplating a unit of 5 diversified for wound allocation.....but it's mainly for an absurd wound allocation army.
Some of the guys I play with hate wound allocation so much that they almost cry cheese....so I was thinking.....couple warbosses.....couple nobz units.....a 3 man meganobz(plain, S/S and S/R), diversified koptas.....you know. Too bad you can't do it with Flash Gitz.

I don't know, but from what Iv'e heard is that commandos die quickly unless they are with snikrot. 2nd deffkopta gets a buzz saw
Thanks brother Taurinus for the Art of Waagh!
I thought that you could have a feel no pain as well as a 'eavy armour?(correct me if im wrong)
I don't understand the wound allocation thing you guys are talking about. Could you please explain?
Also, do you think I should expand on my stormboyz squad or start a loota mob?

The example list I gave has both lootas and stormboys. I would expand on them. Stormboys are good once they get big.
Wound allocation works like this-for example-you have a group fo 5 nobs with choppas and sluggas and nothing else and lets say A tact squad shot 10 shots at you and caused two wounds-One Nob would be dead because you have to take wounds out accordingly, you cant put one on one nob and one on another.... BUUUUT if each nob has slightly different wargear-for example-One of the nobs has a eavy armour and BP, the other one has a banner and PK, the 3rd one had a PK and ard amour, and 4th one has a Big choppa, and 5th one has a big choppa with ard amour. If every model has different wargear,, then you can start putting single wounds on them. So lets say that tact squad shot at your Nob squad with a bunch a different wargear, and they caused two wounds, you then get to put one wound on one nob and one on the other Nob. Wound allocation is in the rulebook, but not sure what page...

Orks in general die quickly unless they have cover saves
Kommandos are liked by some. Expensive boyz that cost an extra 4 points each to outflank. I don't use them, except the occasional Snikrot, and I wish I could just ambush with a PK Nob. I don't use them competitively.

My pleasure! Anything to support my fellow ork players!
MagenWOLF wrote:I thought that you could have a feel no pain as well as a 'eavy armour?(correct me if im wrong)
Yes, they can have both. My point is that you're better off spending the 5 points on cybork body for all nobz....the 'eavy armor is ALMOST redundant with FNP: 'eavy armor vs. cybork.....Against bolters you have a 4+ & FNP, as opposed to a 5++ & FNP. Against a krak missile, lascannon, melta, any S8+ shot....I can't think of one that doesn't have AP4 or less(1's 2's and 3's for those listed here) so no 4+ 'eavy armor save, and since the weapon will cause instant death(T4 x 2 = 8), no FNP roll. Against power weapons, no armor save and no FNP. In the latter scenarios, only the cybork has a chance of saving your nob. My point is that anything that ignores FNP will also ignore the 'eavy armor 4+ save......so spend the 5 points on CBB. Don't buy both, unless a 4+ vs. 5++ is worth that extra 1 against bolters, lasguns, and pulse rifles(it's not). You've still got FNP against those.

Both, but I'd say lootas first. It's harder IMO to convert lootas, even though they're just bigger guns. You can buy lots of pens from the dollar store and add fins and glue them to choppa boyz' backs for stormboyz if you need to
Good luck, happy WAAAGH!, and feel free to ask away or PM with any questions!

Brother is on point about the eavy armor versus CBB(Cybork Body). I have how ever seen a co Ork player at my LGS use both and those Nobs where pretty hard to deal with. I was using Tau at the time and had crisis suits out of position. It took pretty much 100 fire warriors over 2 turns shooting at them and lossing a squad to them in CC. But I did it.
Honestly though CBB is the way to go. If you need to have a model to be different throw on that eavy armor. It helps to play with wound shenanigans.
I would also get some lootas first. They are going to help you more in the long run then the Stormboys. I have been playing around with a list that has 60 Stormboys in it. I just wish the Warboss could take a Jump pack. That would be sooooo Cool!
Also like Brother said anymore question PM or ask on here. I look for Orks lists and questions first.

So lootas.
Currently I have 40 slugga boys, and don't know if to split them up into two squads or make a squad of 30. I can only get 1 set of orks for christmas, so unless I convert, I will only be getting 5 lootas. Or I could get some more boyz?

Honestly at the points you might be playing for a while I would 1) split the squads and 2) get the 5 Lootas.
I understand that this is a expensive hobby. I have been doing it for 13 years now. Multiple armies and many many dollars spent. So you really want to get stuff you will use. One thing that I did when I was starting out was use coins to help with models or blank bases really any kind of marker. Hopefully you have friends that understand and will help you and be cool with it.
One thing you might want to do is build a couple different point lists to work towards. Lets say a 500 pt list, then a 750 list, then a 1k list and so on. That way you can see what you need to build up to the next list. If your 500 pts list has A-B-C then you might want to add D to the 750 list or and more A-B or C to it. I hope this is easy to understand?
Also there is converting. Alot of Orks players love to convert. You can make trukks from cheap toys from a dollar store. Adding some plastic styrene helps to provdie armot plates and what not. You could even do that for BW and looted wagons. Lootas can be made as well relativly easy by adding bigger guns to the boys and you could by a box of regular boys and have 10 lootas for the price of 5. Ask your friends if they have extra weapon bits that you could have or buy on the cheap.
If you want some help with ork conversions the waagh forums is a place for you to find alot of cool stuff made on the cheap. I am sure you could find some stuff on here as well. The Waagh is just easier to find as its all about Orks.
Hope this helps.
