That was what I thought. Almost no point In the Stormraven other than for Fire support.

Thanks.

It's a transport. There's it's point, for transporting things. A Stormhawk is huge, slower, and less maneuverable. If you want a squad of Astartes picked up and taken somewhere else, you ask a Stormraven. If you want five squads to be transported, you ask a Stormhawk.

No such thing as a Stormhawk. There is a Thunderhawk which is a larger drop ship. The Thunderhawk itself is a smaller replacement for the Stormbird of Crusade era.

I know. It was a mental block moment. I combined both in my confusion.

Anyway how do they get Drop Pods back up to their ships?

A Stormhawk comes down and picks them up. Probably a vehicle transport version, lacks the large troop capacity. That's the only way they're able to get back into orbit. Dreadclaws, which are Heresy-era drop-pods now only used by the traitor Legions were able to return to orbit themselves, but were prone to malfunction and were quite erratic.

So there's no specific machine to return them. They just get a big transport and shove them in. Or do what a stormraven does for a Dreadnaught.

Have to agree with GT. Where do you get that Storm-hawk idea from?
I seem to remember it once if at all, mentioned as a vehicle. IIRC that is.

To solve this:

In orbit are the vessels of the chapter. ( Barge ,Cruiser, etc )
- they may launch droppods to get the infantry and walkers down. The pods have to be picked up later.
- they may teleport Termies
- they may field Storm Birds ( pre heresy and after that any leftover machine ) to ferry whole companies down
- they may field thunderhawks to ferry infantry and walkers down, bikes too.
- they may field thunderhawk-transports to ferry vehicles down
- they may field storm ravens to ferry a squad of infantry and a walker down.
- they may field the 'landing craft' from epic to ferry a lot of vehicles and some infantry down.
- back into orbit its one of the 'birds' dutys , be it bird, hawk or raven...

I just hauled out the Codex. Stormravens can do Orbital decents.

Drop Pods can be recovered with a specilized Thunderhawk, but they are largely viewed as disposable. The Imperium just has an intense reclycling policy and they will recover the Pods if possable.

I meant Thunderhawks, if it wasn't already obvious.

I would honestly be surprised if they could even use most of a drop pod again. Please remember that these are essentially large metal containers that are dropped from orbit. The heat ad impact would probably destroy anything on the base of the pod. Last I checked the reason why Space Marines are the only people who use drop pods is that the space marine physiology is the only thing that can survive the somewhat extreme means of planetary landing.
