Hi All,
I've been browsing these forums for a little while now and finally purchased a few models a couple of weeks back and started my first army of Space Marines. Just thought I'd share my progress in the hope to get some further ideas and tips on how to improve my painting (only been painting for 3 weeks or so, so be nice ) I do use the Dipping Method as well, but not sure if this is the way to go? So some advice there would be great. Many Thanks, and I hope you enjoy.

Those models came out really nice, but I think the rhino should be a little cleaner, I like seeing dirty beaten up tanks, but that one just seems a wee bit too dirty.

Do you think a couple of coats of watered down Ultramarine Blue will solve it? as i do agree, but not sure on the course of action to take

Even after years of practice, I was never this good.

Superb finishes!

I actually quite like the dirty look of the tank. It looks like it spent the last few weeks in a warzone. Wouldn't know how to de-dirty it though. Maybe a drybrush of Ultramine Blue to take the edge off it? Obviously, if this doesn't work, it wasn't my idea!

There are 2 possiblities. Either you're i) a lying git who's secretly a golden daemon candidate or ii) very talented and have done a great job!

;D

Also you need to do your dreads base!
They look grim dark and amazing. Better than my dipped tau.

Keep it up and MOAR PICS!

Thanks for the replies guys, very much apprecited. I'll be doing the dread base over the weekend, and i have next week off work so will have a decent amount of time to get some models finished. Mainly the rest of the Honour Gaurd and Marneus Calgar, Scouts with snipers and Land Speeder. Will keep you updated on my progress.

These are really well done for a beginner. Took me many years to get my minis looking that good. Kudos.

There's a technique you can use to make the tank look less dirty, AND shaded!

You successive layers of dry brushing, slowly dry brushing more paint towards the edges of the models, using 2 lighter coats.

Here's an example of a model I did like this:

(edit - removed image embed... doesn't seem right to draw attention from your models in your threat )

I took a base coat of green, put a TON of badab black on it, then drybrushed it all over with goblin green, then a final drybrush around the edges with scorpion green.

Very light layers of drybrushing mind you, so they added up to form a smooth coat. Took like 4 hours of drybrushing to get it right... but the end result is sweet.

Thanks for the kind replies all

@ Horst - that looks like a great technique, i think I'll give it a try over the weekend and I'll post my results to share

Also managed to pick up a very cheap AOBR, so there may even be some orcs appearing!

thought i would post a bit of an update. I have been on holidays from work but the weather here in Brisbane has been so good that I have went to the Gold Coast for a few days, but have managed to get some work done today:

I purchased a Scout Squad, all made ready for priming

I Also started work on Basing my Dread, Nothing flash yet

I also have a Magnetized Dev Squad in the works, took me for ever to get all the magnets in, but it was fun and led to a great result for my first time.

And lastly i thought i would post a pic of my Work Station so you guys know where the magic happens.

Once again, thanks for reading all C&C welcome. You guys should get more updates over the next few days as im goin to be spending alot of time on my SM's.
