Hey everybody I was think of making my self a Space Marine costume (Emperors Champion) because my little brother asked me to make him a ultramarine costume so I though I'd make my self one but a Black Templar one but I don't know what I will need to use to make the parts and what tools I will need. So if anybody can help Please help me

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out. |

Honestly, if you want it to look good it will require alot of work and alot of money. You might want to look up some cosplay sites for tools and supplies.

What material would be the best resin, wood or ect? That is the big question.

well, depending on how much time you want to spend on it then that will really dictate what materials you use. resin is out of the question, its far to brittle. but fibre glass would be prefect, lightweight, strong and durable. but then if you want to go down the fibre glass route then you will need to sculpt and mould each armour section. considering the size of the suit then this will be a long process but will be easy to replicate lots of power amour.
If you want to do it really really well, then watch Iron Man. if i was making a space marine outfit then i wouldn't be happy with anything less then this. And if i lived in Cali then I would be applying to legacy Studio's for a job.
There is also a blod on here somewhere about a guy who has made a really nice SoB cosplay costume for his gf. definetely worth checking that out for ideas and how to make a nice looking boltgun. Another guy i saw on here had made a great looking scout outfit for his 10year old kid.
so in shot figure out a solution that will make you happy with the end result. and remember K.I.S.S.

Thanks for the help where can i get fiberglass and how much would it cost. For my brother I'll make him a scout one and then i can get it done for him and mine will take time with mine.

Actually i'd list the two picture examples as both "Good"
the first one is a pretty flawless scaled example that obviously has had a lot of time and money spent on it, the second however has clearly been given the love!
innovative use of materials and it honestly looks fine.

I actually have a w.i.p for a Grey Knight Terminator. Currently have the head built out of card stock until I get the parts aligned properly, then I'm going to cut it up and template it it to styrene. Once that's built I'm going to spray the entire thing with a layer of rubberized spray....Flex Seal...can get it online or via your late night infomercial.
for the body I'm layering 2" pink styrofoam from Home Depot. Blue would work just as well I would assume. Make a big block that is 6" wider than your torso (3" on either side centered) and 4" taller. This should give you room to work.
Now just cut the stacks into quarter sections. I have a cardboard cross cut out that I'm using to keep the sections in line when stacked back together. I've drawn out the pattern on the blocks and using a foam cutter, I am cutting away the inside of the individual pieces and shaping the outside, leaving a 1" thick "wall". Once all the pieces are reassembled I should have a full suit of 1" thick hollowed out torso armor. This I am going to spray with the Flex Seal as well....
Why Flex Seal? Because it doesn't melt the foam.... and nothing is worse than getting something built to the point of coating and having it melt on you because you had a brain fart and forgot that the hills you worked for hours on can't be spray painted directly.... (mutter, mutter, grumble)
Also, Its a hella ton lighter than fibreglass and non-toxic....
Sorry I don't have pics right now, but as soon as I get to my workspace I'll take some to show you the progress.
Edit* --- If you can get the Torso done using this method, you could conceivably do the Helmet and other armor parts including the shoulder pads this way as well....using a hot knife you can carve runes into the foam for detail as well.

Flex Seal is a Rubberized spray in a can that you can use to seal gutters, cement cracks in foundations, clay pots, etc....
https://www.getflexseal.com
Unfortunately only available in the US, thankfully for me I have a friend who lives in Maine, and it only takes me 4 hours to get to his place.

Well, if you really wanted to you could!
Fact is, if he has a blog showing how he made this, pretty much everything should be applicable to your space marine costume. Of course patterns and dimensions will change, but the tools, materials, and techniques used will not.

This sounds like a great idea and a great solution. Fibre glass is tricky if you haven't used it before. Maybe carbon fibre would be perfect! But the above technique sounds great, lightweight and toxic free. Be careful hot wire cutting stuff tho. Some materials release dangerous chemicals(arsenic).
I loon forward to seeing what you produce and will try to help you find usefull links.
Good luck!
Cheers.

What I need now is some designs. The material is ok I will use foam but the support structure will probable be made of wood. If anybody has any design for the body, legs, arms and Backpack I'm all ears the Helmet I've got sorted (I've ordered a crusader Helmet off ebay and I will spray paint it lol).

We're making a few outfits for our next games day next year. We got warned off using fibreglass for a bunch of reasons by several people. We're looking at a few options of materials but I honestly can't remember what they are. The friend helping us should be coming around today (Necron Celebratory Release Painting Bbq FTW!!!!) and I'll hit him up for what materials we're probably going to be using then and let you know. Whatever it is we're using is good for both carapace Kasrkin and SOB power armour. ....no i'm not wearing the SOB <shudder>
