With the newcrons out and kicking, I am fond of their new desin. It has a heartier look to it. That said, I am higly unfond of the close relationship with the "Arnienator" look, so I am looking for some help on brewing up something better. This is to egyptianise the necrons a lot more, especially as they already have the egyptian theme running through them already.

Trick is, I'm not entirely sure how to do it. I don't exactly want to have robo-tomb kings, and I don't want them looking like thousand sons either (on that note, its tepting to create mechanical constructs counts-as deamons for my thousand sons army). I am wondering if anyone out there has ideas on how to stargateify the necron line so the look like tha goa'uld guardians. The real trick is I want the destroyer platforms to be a part of this conversion program too. Anything from conversion, to sculpting, or even reference to other kits/companies that can help.

I am also keen on the idea of making the squads thematic, so instead of coloring them, each squad is styled after an animal.

The following is specifically what I'm after. Again, though, I'm not convinced of some of the animal ideas *I* have so I'm also looking from ideas from you guys.

Also, im not going to be a whiny badger about the fact that my idea was "stolen". If this sends you off on your own tangent, at least share!

Alligator/crocodile heads would look very distinct.

I like the jackel heads. The bird ones would seem too tzeentchy I would think. Also the jackel is associated with anubis the god of the afterlife so it would match the necron's death vibe.

The Jackal head is so iconic I'd definitely use it, but save it for a special character(s). I also am really fond of the Horus head masks from the original Stargate movie.

In my opion any would work, if your going do to only one god choose one you like the best, or you can have them customized for each different squad you can use in the new codex, and if that squad has any relation to a specific Eygtian God you can model those units after that god

Interesting Idea...

Crocodile Games has a lot of Egyptian artifacts and statues that would look cool... https://www.crocodilegames.com/store/itemList.cfm?catID=23&sort=prodID
They have a lot of animal themed items and pyramids. I would check them out. Most of it would be look cool on the base though rather than on the mini.

Scibor minis has some Egyptian heads but they are rather square and boring IMO, http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=941#i/conversion_parts/big/egiptin_helmetss_01.jpg

oh man! I checked that link, depraved, and I liked some of the stuff. Now I feel some urge to incorporate a sarcophagus theme for my destroyers.... Needless to say I've given the animals much attention. I'll be contacting them to see if I can find out the dimensions of those things.

Heck, now I think about it, it wouldn't be too far off to make them Sphynxes...... hmmm

I've checked scibor, I will likely order from there, but to finish my thousand sons. I did some more poking around too, and it looks like they've upped the ante, they got loads more since I was last there. I've considered the heads before, but theyre just way too far from what I want.

I'll have to start drawings pretty soon here. I think I already have some idea of how to do the bird and jackal. Cat has actually grown on me too, I thought I was going to toss that one out of the window, but if I do it the same way as the jackal, (ears straight up, and long.. just not AS long) then it should work. The croc idea is starting to tax me though. I haven't even begun sketches and im not so confident ill be able to do it, but i'll give it a go sometime.

I've given some thought using ox and gazelle, I will try to keep those for last though.

I'm hoping to pick up the crondex sometime this weekend so I can see how well it meshes.

If they're for Wargods, they are about the same size as 40k models (Wargods is a 28mm game) but I can't recall if they are on 20 or 25mm bases.

After doing some digging, the majority of humanoids are on 20x20mm bases, just like WHFB.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

The crocodile Idea has been growing on me, so I did a bit of digging for lore. I was having no luck with my sketches, because they kept turning out like dragon heads, too much so that I was suspicious I might not be able to do it.

Fortunately I found these images posted below.

It looks like I've found everything I need to get started on drawings and think about how I actually want to make thsese (as well as get the codex and a boxed set or two).

For the time being, I have settled on:
Anubis - jackal
Horus/Ra - bird
Sobek - crocodile
cobra/snake
possibly khnum - ram

Updates to follow as I can attend to this.

Well now, I've been staring at the Newcron codex and the options.... oh the options for putting this into play.

Intially, I went and bought the lychguard/triarch boxed set because they have the stave weapons to make this idea come to life. Initially when I came up with the idea, I'd wanted to have sargeants leading my squads, but noshed that idea pretty quick since there are of course no sargeants in the necron army.... at least, none that are readily aparent. I noticed the Necron Overlord may take a personal retinue, of 5 lords and 5 crypteks, which can remain in a single unit, or be broken up at the start of the game to lead squads.

Offhand, going the necron lord route seems the most appropriate as wargear is concerned, assault 3 weapon with a good range. It's not as killy as a squad of triarch (who are incredibly short range, but will devastate you if they close) and it lets me have my squad-organisation and the ability to modify my underlings to represent the deity they are being led by.

Thoughts? comments? crits?

The necron kits, by the by, look like they are going to be the hottest item on the block for a long time, both for creating mechanicus armies as well as techmarine/iron warrior etc. wargear.

Edit:

My camera is currently MIA... i'll be trying to hold this off for a week in the hope I have my camera so I can document this.

Sounds like one hell of a conversion task! I prefer the bird like ones.
