How do you defend against SM drop pod assault with chaos marines? My opponents usually take a single pod with a dread, meaning it always arrives neatly in the first turn behind my lines, takes out a vehicle and then stays there menacing the rest and taking resources to remove. It's all but a guarantee of starting the game with a vehicle stunned or destroyed.

I can usually compensate if my oblits hit enough lascannons or meltas afterward, but it's still a nasty distraction. Any hints on how to minimize the threat?

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

If it is just one drop pod with one dread then I would position yourself so he can't get behind your lines. Back everything up so you are on the edge of the board. Spread squads out around the vehicles so he isn't close enough for melta range.

Or if you really want to mess with him start all your vehicles in reserve. He is going to look a little silly when his alpha strike vehicle destroyer has no targets.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

Since there's only one turn where you have to worry about it, just castle up and don't offer any good targets.

Or, yeah, keep everything in reserve. Or at least the stuff you don't want to get melta'd.

Drink deeply and lustily from the foamy draught of evil.

Do you not have tons of meltaguns? The oblits are needed to fire at the far away targets whilst the meltas would usually have little in range. Given the dread may have blown up a rhino the occupants can shoot their meltas back.
