This is wquestion that arises from a suggested tactic I posted: the dreadknight wall.
My question is: How do you determine if a model grant cover to those behind? TLOS? or if the shot cross the base, the model is interposing?
For example: I suggested to use DK as cover because of their large base, but someone told me that the base itself doesn't matter.

True Line of Sight, exactly how it tells you to in the rulebook
This is true for everything that isnt a non-vehicle, non-MC in Area terrain.

Yup, the base is irrelevant. The unit behind will get a cover save if they are sufficiently obscured by the model in front.

On pg 22 of the rulebook it says that if a unit is firing through a unit then it count as in cover.
By this rerasoning having a shot passing through a dreadknight to a squad should giver it an automatic cover save. If it was the other way around then TLOS and 50%,.

I'll back this up, remember the Dreadknight is probably moving itself obscuring the (usually) smaller target behind.

Deadshot, the rule you're referring to applies to firing through the gaps between models in an intervening unit. The is no gap between a model in a single-model-unit and any other model in that same unit, since there are no other models in the unit.
A single-model unit will only provide a cover save to a unit behind it if it is actually obscuring LOS.

... well.. if spaces between models grant cover, the base of a single model should grant cover as well no? BTW I'll ask opponent permission and I have to admit that the wording of the rule seems to contradict my tactic... TLOS sillyness again...

No. The physical model grants cover. The spaces between two models in the same unit grant cover. The space around a single model does not.

I find that a stupid rule, but I will conceed.
Personally I think the legs of the DK should count, but that's just me.
