With the new White Dwarf came a small leaflet thingy advertising "the perfect gift for any warhammer lover" and as always showed the most exspensive things on the warhammer menu, one thing I see some people get interested in is the megaforce. no point in showing pics, nothing special and new really.

SPACE MARINE MEGAFORCE: £130
"35 plastic miniatures
Contains:
A venerable dreadnought
A captain.
A command squad
A scout squad
Land Speeder Storm
Two tactical squads
A land raider redeemer/crusader
and a drop pod.
this all comes out to roughly £204 I think. so thats quite a large saving of 74 pounds.

DARK ELDAR MEGAFORCE: £130
20 wyches
10 warriors 5 scourges
9 reavers
1 raider
1 ravager
and one venom
this all adds up to roughly £185.50

So what do you think of these boxes? do you like the combinations? Let your opinions fly!

one thing though..strange these are only in some weird booklet, and not in the White dwarf, nor been announced on the website.

I voted that I liked them both, but I will only get the space marine one myself. Just starting a SM army so eventually everything in there should see use. Not a DE fan, but it's still a nice set.

Also like the two sets for fantasy, but will only get the skaven since my HE army is pretty well set.

Ikr? that space marine one does look tempting, as it would basically finish my black tempalrs, only problme I have is that land raider, storm and drop pod. I d convert the crusader for sure and have it fo rhte awesome but I have no need for a storm. Guess I can trade it away.

Gathering the Informations.

Reason they'd be in the booklet rather than White Dwarf is because White Dwarf has a fairly long lead time, and it's easier to add small stuff like this as a booklet.

Yes, the drop pod is the only odd piece in there for me as well. I don't like the model, and would have preferred even a rhino instead, but oh well, maybe drop the dread with it in a game.

The storm and scouts came at the right time, as my first list I'm planning shotgun scouts in the storm.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

wouldnt mind picking up the DE one, wouldnt be a bad way to start a Wych-centric DE force for me.

Price is nice, but the SM one feels like it's lacking adequate numbers of infantry.

True...looking at the space marine one the marine megaforce is more of a typical space marine build...two tactical squdas captain and command squad a land raider...all its missing is two more rhinos...btw, before I consider getting this, anyone know if smoke launchers come with the Rhino kits? or do they come somewhere else?

Can't say the marine box really interests me. I'm just waiting for a BA jump pack-based marine box.

20 Assault marines, 5 DC, 5 SG, a command squad and 5 extra jump packs? I would be all over that.

Until then, I'll probably expand at a rate of 5 marines every 6 months. Like 2011.

What's not to like about a 35% discount? I pre-ordered the Dark Eldar one and I don't even play 40k.

The dark eldar one needs another ravager and raider plus another. And you need a HQ.

I don't know who'd use 9 jetbikes either..

The marine one is pretty good actually. But the last thing I need is more marines.

As far to the east you can get without being in Canada.

They are not on GW website, but Wayland has them for pre-order.

Honestly, while they are both nice values, I have no use for either of them. So I had to choose neither. Now if they had a Chaos Space Marine, Necron, or Tyranid Battleforce then I'd be very interested indeed.

They always do the two big ones. so of course they woul ddo space marines as always and dark eldar, the years biggest 40k release (considering they released at least 4 waves)

Dark Eldar and Space Marines together again lol
yeah the Dark Eldar one sucks, and would need a bunch more stuff to be useful, the Marine one, surprise surprise, is playable out of the box

It's almost like it's easier to make a low model count Space Marine force than a Dark Eldar one using plastics.

Uh. no. DE are a complicated army. Not everyone uses all these choices. Especially not scourges and reavers. I'd need at least two raiders to make it worth it, maybe a second ravager even instead of the other six reavers

I'd still advocate for a plastic trueborn kit. Five models. Two cannons, five carbines, four blasters, all the other options. Seriously. DE are curiously lacking an "extra weapons kit" (besides the scourges, which contain almost nothing in a decent quantity).

Holy Mother the space marine one is good! It's actually an army in a box! Plus, plenty of extra bits in the command and captain box. All you really need is rhinos and some temrinators.

Marine box looks pretty good. Useful choices in the main, especially if it's a new army. DE - I'd be paying for 9 reaver jetbikes and that doesn't appeal.

Could always sell them on here

I love the reaver jetbikes, for example, and i'm sure i'm not the only one.

Are they an uber-optimal FA choice for competitive play? Not really.

Do they look absolutely stunning on a display shelf or on the table, why yes they do (imho)

I'm sure someone would eb happy to snap them up, and you could then blow the cash on something more to your taste

I'm looking forward to the post-christmas selloff of models

Well, most nobody not playing DE on a competetive lebel will understand...

But except for the Raider absolutely and afterwards except for the wyches according to taste, this battleforce is excellent.
Especially due to includimg 9 Jetbikes!

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body!
