I've just got my two player box and a p butcher. The fact that i want a karchev straight away and a berserker is scaring me.I truly love this game. What i hate about it is the amount of excitement i have about the miniature range and how many i want to buy!
I have not even played a game ( just read the rules again and again). I just am in love with so many minis. Retribution, trollbloods and gators are all on my buy list just for the models(i'm a bit upset that most of the models i like are "axe in face" factions ).
It is truly refreshing to be able to choose armies based on models and not points. I am more excited about this game than i ever was with 40k. What i am looking most forward to (however impractical it is) is using a juggy to hold a 1 melee weapon jacks arm captive whilst i bash it with an axe.
btw hows this for a list
Karchev the Terrible5Berserker6Berserker6Destroyer9Juggernaut7Battle Mechaniks (Leader and 3 Grunts)32Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts)4Winter Guard Field Gun Crew (Leader and 2 Grunts)2Winter Guard Field Gun Crew (Leader and 2 Grunts)2Widowmaker Marksman2

I am in love with jacks and wil always hope to run a jack heavy khador list.
Guys what are the BEST anti inf jacks?

I couldn't read the list very well, so I won't comment. I suggest you try forwardkommander.com, and use the copy tool and past the list over again.

A lot of people go for the Behemoth early, because it seems to do well against everything. Templates really seem to be the Anti-Infantry part of jacks.

I know how you feel! I still got so much stuff i would like to buy ( atm 10 items alone to expand my skorne army) and every day i find more interesting stuff and interactions.
The worst part: You will love it even more, as soon as you start playing. Seriously every warma/hordes game is more fun, than with all the GW games i played in the last years. Due to this its like a drug. Its so much fun that you want more of it. At first you start at 15 points, but you soon want more, so you go to 25. But thats not enough and you start to expand and expand.....

Yeah, it gets like that. For the record Retribution isn't very "axe to face" though.

Karchev is the best at running jacks in Khador. Due to his spells he prefers a larger volume of warjacks. Another common Karchev tactic is the "gunboat" where he tows around the Behemoth or some Destroyers and stuff. It's pretty cool actually.

Tying up a weapon with a Juggernaut fist IS always an available tactic. It's actually not too bad against something like a Defender that only has one melee weapon, but whose weapon has a pretty damning effect. The automatic cortex damage is pretty harsh.

Since you like jacks, you might want to look at the Koldun Lord. He's a 2pt solo with a couple of cool abilities. One of them is Power Booster which can give a jack 1 focus, so that's pretty cool. ( the more focus you can get the better )

Field Guns are pretty decent. Usually a Karchev list doesn't really use them though since they can't move and shoot in the same turn. It's a real trick to have them in the right position all the time.

Try putting that list in vertical format, it's much easier for people to read.

Karchev sure loves his Berserkers. Unearthly Rage is like giving each of them six focus to play with! The Destroyer is pretty fun to stick in Tow with Karchev that way it gets to move but still get the aiming bonus on its turn by sacrificing its own movement. The Juggernaut is also a fan of Unearthly Rage since the additional die on attack rolls gives that freezy axe about 60% chance to crit on someone. You may want to consider swapping the Juggernaut for his big brother, Beast 09. Beast is very fast (Khador-wise, at least), Thresher can make a mess of Infantry, and Beast will demolish pretty much anything in its way.

I'm just getting into the game and have started having those same feelings. Haven't played a game yet, only just got the two main rulebooks, and watched a couple of batreps online, and already I want to buy the entire skorne and everblight lines. Still haven't been able to pick a warmachine faction though, hopefully one will grow on me as I watch more games.

I don't understand why you have to start with everything when you got nothing. I also have the feeling that I want ALOT, but I can't buy all at once and I don't have time to glue, spray and paint too much. But that's just for one faction. Why do you have to go all the way at start? Can't you just concentrate on one army and doing that well first? And after that, start something new?

thanx for the replies guys. Due to your advice i have decided to drop the field guns and added a koldun lord (for that 1+focus ) and a widowmaker marksman.I am a little worried about my lack of anti infantry, but i guess i will have a better idea of the game after i lose my first 15 games. It's nice to see others are as excited by the game as i am.
Baxx, i know i probably sounded a little overexcited, and i probably won't buy all those factions soon. I just am amazed that i want so much, in 40k the only factions i was ever interested in were orks and chaos, so wanting 3-4 factions already feels kinda liberating (to my wallet?)

I'd also like to read this letter. If anyone has the NQ issue number that would be grand.
My supreme hate has already manifested () . I have purchaseda karchev, a WG 6 man box, a rocketeer, a kovnik joe, a wardog, a widowmaker solo, a zerker and a heavy jack kit. That's more money than i have ever dropped at one time on a wargame.Hopefully untill i have finished painting all that i can keep my purchases down to completing the WG deathstar and a Harlan Versh.

I was picturing using harlan as a buddy to whatever caSTER i'm using (but most likely with butcher or sorscha), i like his background and his ability to put the hurt on things with upkeep on them as well as shooting warcasters if they use a spell looks great.
Does anyone have any practical experience with Harlan?

Harlan Versh can be downright dirty versus the right list.

Definitely remember his stealth, and the witch hunter ability that lets him shoot a model that casts a spell within 10" of him.

Versus a shooty unit, which will have snipe or deadeye, or a protective upkeep, he can rip apart a good chunk.
Say Stormblades with Arcane shield, or Trenchers with Snipe.
Winter Guard. You can't ignore Bob n Weave, but you can ignore the Iron Flesh, and get your boosts.

Go for things with low DEF if there are no upkeeps around.
I like to use him for solo hunting if the other player is cagey about his upkeeps.

Using him with a caster that can Knock Down stuff, he is fantastic.
I got a 'caster kill on Sorcha when Stryker Earthquak-ed her, then Versh walked up and multi-fired 3 times to kill her.
Even without the boosts, he did well.

Bam, said the lady!

Found it:

Dear Hated Privateer Press,

I opened No Quarter #16 today fully expecting to spend lots of unearned money on unreleased figures.. Yes, I would buy Reznik, Mortenebra, and every other filthy preview your magazine has to offer. Yes, my imaginary bank account has traveled the time stream to pick up Gudrun the wanderer and every single Privateer Press release you could fit on pages 8-10. And while I was lustily purchasing these imaginary soldiers with my imaginary salary, with my eyes looking past mostly everything else that was in the magazine, my eyes stopped.

They stopped on the Black 13th.

On page 68 you mention a unit of exemplary gun mages in the Iron Kingdoms and I knew, I KNEW that I had to pretend to roleplay or DM a session with aspiring gun mages. And now I’ve posted on your message boards asking for advice on how to do this, and I’m spending imaginary money on rulebooks I don’t yet have in order to see this scenario come to light, even if it might never ever be played.

So, this email is filled with all my hate and imaginary blank check. Please don’t spend it all in one place.

P.S.: I will also be sending my very real payment for limited edition Eiyriss shipping.

-

If this is your definition of “hate mail”, all we can say is “Thanks!” Were glad that you absolutely hated the gun mage rules provided with No Quarter #16 and that you’re going to purchase Iron Kingdoms Guide and Iron Kingdoms World Guide out of sheer spite. We’re positive you’ll mumble epithets under your breath as you go out, find some players, and labor at building a gun mage character for your gaming session. Don’t worry-you’ll have plenty more to bemoan this year. We’re sure you’ll despise us even more for including the RPG material we have planned for the Sign & Sigil and Secrets of Five Fingers series. We’ll also cash that imaginary blank check from your imaginary bank account. Make it out to “Privateer Press” in the amount of “one soul”. Just make sure it don’t bounce, okay?

And you should definitely send in your payment for the No Quarter Exclusive Eiryss model as soon as possible-they’ll be around only as supplies last!

PP +1 yet again. I've e-mailed GW and got either no response or "We don't care about your concerns, we just want your money".

What I absolutely adore about this game over 40k is for £5-£15 you can completely change the face of your army and in no time you have a huge collection.

I have almost all of the Mercenary solos, 4 Menoth casters and many of their solos, so just one or two models here and there can make my army play completely differently, which I think is amazing.

As much as I love 40k, you need to list tailor from the off or it becomes far too expensive.

I played 40k and other table top games and I spent a lot of money - owning IG, Black Templars, Necrons and Tau. It was expensive and took years to build up the armies I had. It always frustrated me that to buy and army theme/design that I wanted would take over $300 in 40k!

A year ago I started playing WarmaHordes and in that year I have purchased Cygnar, Khador, Circle, Retribution, Mercs, Rhul and Legion factions. I have multiple caster/warlocks in each and I purchased full and ready to play 35pt lists for around $150.

I love the fact that I can buy a Caster/Warlock plus a unit or two and completely change the style of army I own!
