What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I think we can all say that it's not the best sculpt in the world, but it's free. Right?

Ramshackle Miniatures has never been known for their amazing sculpts. Their sculpts have always been "good enough" at worst and really creative at best,

Regardless, Ramshackle Miniatures has always had absurdly low prices.

This is probably their best price yet.

Mmmmm... model for the price of postage...

The painted example on their store looks a lot better than the one above to be fair.

Thanks for the heads up

Well, yeah... if you file off the drag queen you'd be left with a fairly decent obelisk.

Alternatively lay it over on its face, which would explain why she looks all squished.

Yeah, i agree... The miniature is bad an ramshackle stink for trying to give that to us, even for free...

Not that another BIG company around dont actually make us pay for similar things...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

The negativity towards this piece is entirely misplaced. Warhammer is generic fantasy, as is D&D and the damsel in distress is a classic fantasy theme. yet very rarely do we see a miniature to represent this. I like it. Actually its one of the more useful vignette pieces as it is a scenario focus/objective.

I do wonder what is on the obverse side of the obelisk. The background info on the piece over at Ramshackle says she is in fact a deadly lure pretending to be a damsel in distress. So either she kills her rescuers or she has a quick release catch and a big gun behind the obelisk. if Ramshackle have made a mistake it may have been to add clues to a specific backstory on the sculpt, whereas a damsel in distress cliche is what gamers actually need. In fact even 'cliche' is not fair as while a common theme it is so rarely represented.

So who would be shackled to an obelisk, the daughter of someone important no doubt. Someone either who is being spread out as lunch for a nasty beastie, cue hero. Or someone due to be sacrificed when the moon is at its height, cue party of heroes. Or someone forced by a vile tyrant to overlook a battle where her noble father/brother/suitors army is going to be destroyed, cue whole army and an overconfident evil side general cackling 'you cannot save her, nothing can stop me now'.

In all three cases the girl would be a captive for far longer than her time as a decoration on a large rock. She is already lonely, dirty, frightened, cold, hungry and in pain. All that is evident and ready to be picked out, given the right paint job this will come out in the finished model. Therefore Ramshackle did its job with the sculpt.

Consequently its the painters who try to doll her up that ruin it, not the sculpt itself.

A good paint job salvages this piece.

A see through dress victim, well done I think.

Not a top quality paint job, but a better painting vision IMHO. The victim here looks half starved and gaunt. All she is missing is a better paint job. The victim should not have eye shadow, lipstick and nail varnish because when painted without them her gaunt boney frame indicates a victim who may have been in a captive for a considerable time, even though only recently shackled to that rock. That actually makes sense, she is only a 'drag queen' when given her make up, people are blaming the sculpt when its the paint job that needs critique.

I think a combo of matted hair, dirty wet rags and a filthy gaunt pained victim denied access to her mascara set would make the pose and sculpt work very well.

Being a free model aside I think Ramshackle are getting better at doing character sculpts, that can only be a good thing. Keep it up Ramshackle.

To Ramshackle Curtis if he is here: When can we see stuff along the lines of the Huntsman Spider Tank, that was awesome.

Just to be clear, I don't have a problem with the theme. The idea is fine... the execution is what lets it down. I'm also not complaining about the sculpt because it's from Ramshackle... I have no issue with Ramshackle, and love some of their vehicle sculpts. The company producing a product is less important than the quality of that product.

Sure, this is a freebie. That doesn't mean that everyone automatically has to like it, or agree that it is good.

Of course not. Its all opinions. However there were a lot of people slagging off the model with words that express problems with the paintjob rather than the sculpt itself on closer inspection.

You called the model a 'drag queen'. Given makeup and a bright dress and a bimbo hairdo then yes, but her proportions work well as a half starved victim.

The left forearm needs some green stuff work on it to reangle it to something more reasonable, but thats all the sculpt needs from this angle.

My comment wasn't so much about the paintjob, as the size of her hands and feet, and the shape of her face. Ramshackle's paintjobs really don't do them any favours, though.

Thanks for the attention! Ive now got quite a lot of orders for Trixie, so it will be a few days before I can work through them!

Ive painted 3 versions of her myself now, and my favourite of them is this one:

The octopus is a pickled one. It was tasty.

The back of the model is the stone texture with the metal banding wrapped around. However, there is a mould line going up the back, so needs some clean up.

Hey Ramshackle,

Thank you very much for the free miniature, I ordered one from you on Sunday. It will be a very cool objective marker in my games.

A great deal to be sure. I assume no one has posted on it recently since the figure has been a free offer for a few years now.

Breotan wrote:Someone need some serious lessons in anatomy. Maybe also spend some time in an art school.

Reasonable criticisms, but in fairness, I think this is one of their earliest sculpts. Comparing it to some of their more recent work, there has been significant progress.

I've been tempted by Ramshackle several times, but the shipping rates to USA for heavy resin are just rediculous. I did manage to pick up an awesome "Half Ute" vehicle and some resin wheels at a recent convention and without the shipping rates, Ramshacke stuff is an amazing deal!

A fella offers something free and people complain. I'd say "only on dakka" if the whole interweb wasn't already like that.

Good enough sculpt and a whole lot better than a whole lot of other minis out there, and ya can't argue with the price. Will make a good objective marker if nothing else

Hey, you want one, order one. I think expecting other people not to appraise the quality of sculpts posted on this forum just because they're being given away free, is a little pretentious.
Necros wrote:Good enough sculpt and a whole lot better than a whole lot of other minis out there...
If you're fine with the sculpt then good for you. Just don't expect people - especially me - to agree with your definition of "a whole lot".

Exactly. I'm not sure how a topic letting people know there is a free mini available had to devolve into people attacking the sculpt. This wasn't a constructive criticism sought post... or rather in the above, negative criticism.

IM happy to do deals on postage. I can usually make orders over seas a little bit cheaper by taking a cut on the profit margin. You can go through the contacts page on the website:

Any messages here go straight to my email, so please feel free to drop me a line. Let me know what you want and where you live and I am happy to work out a deal!

As for the sculpting, Im pretty happy with it. She doesnt look too much like a drag queen! Her hands and feet are very large, and she has a well boney elbow! The mould has just about worn out so maybe I should resculpt the hands and feet for the next mould?
