Recently handling rhubarb and it triggered a memory of someone saying that rhubarb leaves are poisonous. Are they?

Yes-they are loaded with Oxalic Acid..Handling them is ok-just wash your hands....Eating them will make someone pretty sick..

Yep, they are only toxic if ingested.

Wow I didnt know that. We eat rhubarb and make stuff out of it often. Good to know, hopefully the wife knew that gem

The bit you're supposed to eat is fine, it's just the large green parts of the leaves that are toxic if ingested.

That's why rhubarb is 'forced' (grown in very low light conditions) so that you get lots of edible bit and very little leaves. As a side note, I watched a TV show where they showed people growing rhubarb, and you can actually hear it creaking as it grows...

Its awful, so shes not killing me off for the policy
