My progress:
Assembled: 4000 / 4000 points - 26 hours
Painted: 4000 / 4000 points - 36 hours
Finished (i.e. based and rods added): 4000 / 4000 points

As you may or may not know, I have issued a challenge to myself to paint up a 2000 point Warhammer 40k Necron army in 30 days.

(Update: Now I'm going for 4000 points in 30 days)

The 30 days starts today (November 5, 2011) and ends on December 5th, 2011.

I am going to keep a log here of how far along I have been able to progress, along with details such as time spent, and any interesting things that happen.

Yup. Thread should be moved there (or re-started there).

I'd happily watch someone build some other armies (fb or 40k) like this. Altho necrons aren't my favorite army , its fun to watch you strug...progressing with them I'm not sure if one month is enough, but well, you do miniatures as your job.

It's fun to assemble. The control area is a bit of a pain to get right with the pilot, but the rest is a breeze and goes together quite well.

Still, it takes a couple of hours to assemble.

Yea I learned the hardest don't assemble command module before painting it. Or at least the engines and armor plating. Looks good and good progress!

What I found is you basically assemble everything except for the warriors and pilot and his console. The rest can be painted in one go, and then the guys can be painted and added in.

It really cut down on the painting time.

Yea I really wish i hadn't put the pilot in when it told me to. I know better on the next 2 ghost arks im going to be putting together.

I'm not sure if I can make it to 4000 points painted, but I'll definitely get 4000 points assembled.

I just acquired a preassembled Monolith, 6 Destroyers, and some Warriors and Swarms from Mike, so all I have to do is paint them.

I am actually finding myself really wanting to assemble and paint, which is unusual as I am normally a "let's just get it done" kind of guy. However, this is getting rather fun and addicting to build up this army so quickly.

I think part of this is because the Necrons are easy to paint, but the other part is just the satisfaction of seeing the army grow right before my eyes.

I realize that not everybody can afford to build up a 4000 point army in 30 days (I get it at wholesale as I own a store), but I'm sure there are plenty of people with tons of unpainted models.

Trust me when I say it, once you get going you'll gain momentum that will help you get it all done. Just take it one model / unit at a time, and think in terms of how many points you just painted.

Matt, you and I have very similar tastes in armies ! I started off Necrons when I first started 40k like 2 years ago, then i bought nids and i've been a HUGE fan of the beat matt bat reps to constantly learn and think outside the box with strategies (you've proved the use of the doom of malan'tai, even your pyrovore drop in the latest vid was great! not something id do all the time, but well played good sir!)

I CANNOT wait to see what you do with the necrons! Since the release of the update, i've gone back to the necrons and plan on making them my main army again, so I plan on watching and learning from your future bat reps!

It's nice to think that I'm inspiring someone out there.

The Tyranid vs Necron battle report was interesting. I actually wanted to lose that game, so I decided to help that goal by bringing in units that I wouldn't consider very good (like the Pyrovore).

However, that almost backfired as it turned out to be super-effective at taking down warriors! And my Gargoyles were actually great at tar-pitting the Overlord.

Overall a rather interesting outcome. Thank goodness he made so many Reanimation Protocol rolls!

I couldnt believe how many points Reanimation protocol gave back, and he even failed quite a few rolls with lychguard, the costly units - imagine if he tossed a few res orbs in there...

Anyway, I have to find a way to transport my army safely on an airplane and burn a few air miles and head out east and meet / play you guys sometime!

Edit: BTW, I recommend anybody wanting to get some new models, MWG has a 25% off sale this week, so def. check it out! (Since GW won't have a sale )

It's almost identical. I found the ghost arks take a TINY bit longer because you need to glue the soldiers in separately, but its pretty simple since they have a peg that goes in quite nicely... (thats what she said)

Awesome, actually i think it will take less time because the soldiers should be easier to paint than detail work on doomsday cannon. Thanks for the info.
