I’m considering making a ruined temple display board for my pre-heresy thousand son army that I‘m building...

Now I can easily use a laser cutter to engrave the title pattern on the bases on a few sheets of plasticard, however I attend several tournaments a year and most of them have different points values; 1500, 1750, 2000pts. So the biggest problem that’s bugging me is how to make the board usable for different points levels?

So far my best ideas are to either create bits of terrain to cover the slots I’m not using, split the board up and create interchangeable pieces for each unit or so far the best option which is not to include any slots/holes.

I’d be grateful for any help or advice on this subject?

I think that having sections for each unit is the best idea. It is easier to create a single large plug to replace/cover a whole unit section than it is to create individual model base plugs.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Not sure about the board issue, but man those models are looking sweet! I'd love to see more.

Initial success, or total failure.

Skipping the holes for models would be by far the easiest option, but it won't look quite as snazzy as countersinking each one.

If you choose to use holes, I'm rather split on the issue of doing modular unit bases vs. permanent board with terrain to cover unused unit spots. Either option has distinct benefits and drawbacks. Personally, I'd try and get a large sheet of paper and start laying out your models, sketching around them to try out some hypothetical layouts. If you find an attractive layout where replacing units left out at lower point levels with terrain would still look good, go with that option. If the gaps leave the remaining models scattered strangely or you can't come up with a good piece to fill the void, go modular. With either method, keeping the joins (between board and loose terrain or between unit/terrain bases) inconspicuous will be crucial.

If you could meld your bases with the board, and have magnets in the bases, and roofing shingles under the surface of the board I think it would look pretty good.
