So I found a spray paint that is the absolute perfect base color for what I want.

I have not been able to, nor do I ever think I will, find it in a paint pot.

http://www.krylon.com/products/fluorescent_paint - the yellow (in case someone knows of a better place to look for paints than I do)

Since I know spraying won't get me 100% coverage and I will need to touch up (especially on some of my already assembled models) would it make sense/work to spray some paint into a container (old sacrificial tupperware for example), allow it to pool, then dip a brush in that?

Is there an easier way?

I think this is called "decanting spray paint" yes you can do it but be advised of a few things;

1. it is going to dry rather fast, so be prepared to work quickly

2. it will most likely ruin your brush, even cleaning it with oderless mineral spirits may not clean it up, so plan accordingly.

3. It is very messy to do this, wear gloves, and work over some drop cloths.

Now as far as how you do this, you need to get your self some big straws...the kind you get from McDonalds, then hold one of the straw upto the spary nozzel, and put the other end in your container, then proceed to spray untill you have the desired amount of paint.

Good luck.

Thanks - I had already planned on everything but the straw. (awesome tip!) And since it's just for the base coat I'm not going to use a good brush.

I figured I wasn't the first one to do it, but its good to know it's common enough that there's a term for it

I do this all the time when I need to Prime certain parts on models.

I posted a tutorial in my Blog on how I did it.

If you don't want to decant, I would go this route:

This paint will not glow in the dark fluorescence =/= phosphorescence.

I just love the color it dries as - I don't care about glowing in the dark or anything like that.

That yellow as a base for my Tyranids, orange carapace, blue highlights, white weapons.

I'm slightly colorblind so I love extreme color differences and Tyranids seem to be the perfect place for outrageous color combinations.

Thanks for the links - I might order some and see how it comes out. Unless someone can find an example pic?

hehehe... It's not your fluorescent yellow, but it's definitely fluorescent.

Just uploaded this yesterday actually. I'd take a picture of it under a black-light, but I gotta figure out how to do it well first.
