No, I'm not surprised that they're going to continue with the business plan that makes them boatloads of money and produces games that tons of people enjoy.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

That's because people are idiots.

"They pay $60 for glorified DLC every year, therefore, they are of lesser intelligence"

Much like those who buy Capcom Fighting games four times over before they get the actual $60 game.

You would dare suggest that Activision and it's developers have simply repackaged Call of Duty 4 and released it one a year annually while people continue to proclaim it as new and amazing? Why Slarg, I is disappoint

Then by extension, people who buy new cars instead of buying the model from a year prior are idiots.

People who sell their 2011 Ford so they can buy the 2012 are idiots. Someone who bought a car and drove it for twenty years before it broke down and they needed a new one are simply following necessity.

As an aside, why are cars so often brought up as metaphors in video game discussions? They're not really comparable products...

How do you figure? A car is a totally different animal than a luxury good.

Indeed, it's an absolute luxury.

Especially for those of us who live 50 minutes away from work.

I'm disappointed you fail to see the difference between a product that costs several thousands dollars versus a silicon disk of 1's and 0's and how the two items aren't really comparable at all in terms of market behavior and value.

You've yet to explain why buying a car new doesn't make someone an idiot, while buying a videogame does.

I did. Apparently you just didn't get it (maybe I was a little too ambiguous).

People who sell their 2011 Ford so they can buy the 2012 are idiots.

If you already own something, why would you turn around and buy a practically identical product? For the new bells and whistles that only exist on the surface? Oh look, Call of Duty 4 got a graphics overhaul for the 4th year in a row! Sad part is that I know people who do buy a new car every year but that's another matter.

This of course, ignoring that cars aren't video games and that how people buy cars and how they buy video games are very different.

I'm not saying people can't enjoy it. I certainly like Dynasty Warriors and that's probably one of the most recycled series in gaming, but I'd never call it the great or 'new and amazing' like every successive Call of Duty 4 expansion has been.

Not everyone who plays the game says that, you know. You're painting everyone who owns the game with the same brush.

Metacritic

Never as a Call of Duty of Modern Warfare title not been met with cries of how much of an improvement it was over the previous games the series. Sure some people disagree (I obviously do) but the series gets as close universal praise as one can get for releasing the same game every year every year. I'm calling the game what it is. Call of Duty 4.4, but somehow it continues to get critical praise which is in part why I've stopped listening to mainstream critics.

When Activision/Intinity Ward decide to actually make something new instead of rereleasing the same game every year, they know where to find me... I'm a nerd... I don't get out much

Bah, I know plenty of people who have bought $60 worth of TF2 hats every year! Its their own property so they can do what they want as long as it satisfies their desire (though not for long) and as capitalists, we love our consumerism even if its illogical at times! Companies do what they must to get money at the expense of pandering to the lowest common denominator! GW does it, Capcom does it, Blizzard does it, EA does it, Microsoft does it, the list goes on!

Critics aren't the only people to play the game.

Everyone I've talked to admits that it's a rehash, but it's still fun. They're not idiots. Stop implying they are.

I remember on my excursions to /v/ (the video game board of 4chan...yes that 4chan) and someone made a pic showing someone playing game X and someone playing game Y

Normally pictures like that would insult one side or both. But on the bottom it said along the lines of "We all just want to have fun"

I know guys too. Its a shame the guys we know aren't representative of a large body of people. Critics aren't the only ones who praise the game. Hope over to Activisions forums, where anyone who even attempts to criticize the series is shot down in an instant by a swarm of other people who are willing to foolishly waste money on something they already own while singing its praises.

If people want to spend their money on something they've already bought three times, that's their choice. But don't expect me to consider it a intelligent use of money. It's not.

I'll give them this though. They're not as dumb as the people who call the game horrible and that they won't buy it and then buy it anyway and then continue to call it horrible and say they won't buy it. That's just sad

I'm not at all shocked by this, nor will I be purchasing it.

That being said, I don't get all the people who bash people who buy a CoD game yearly. It's no different than people who will buy [insert sports game here] every year. And I really don't understand bashing people who buy a CoD game yearly on a wargamming forum, where most people spend more than $60 a year to play "the same game."
