Orks mobs with Mob Rule may always choose to substitute the number of Orks in their mob for their normal Leadership value
I was pondering this rule recently and I came up with a situation I wanted to get other people's opinions on:
1. A mob of boys 12 strong, get in combat with a walker, for whatever reason they don't have a Nob, perhaps it's dead, perhaps the player didn't take one for some reason, they lose two models and combat, my question is, since the wording in Mob Rule is: may always choose to subsitute... can the boys instead of rolling against 8 (10 boys -2 for losing combat) choose to roll their leadership at 5 (normal 7, -2 for losing by 2) in hopes of being able to run away and regroup next turn rather than being tarpitted?
Similarly, if a group of say 3 Nobz loses combat could they choose to use their total number of models rather than their leadership to try to flee and regroup?
I guess what it boils down to is there any reason you have to use the highest stat in a situation where you have two options?

You have to use the highest leadership available to you but the use of the mob rule is optional.
The orks only ever have one leadership value available - what the value is depends on whether you use the (optional) mob rule special rule.

As Scott said, you can always choose whether or not to use the Mob rule. And, there's no restriction on if it makes the Ld higher or lower.
But, if the Mob numbers 11 or more, you're fearless whether you like it or not.

I've rarely been able to get a mob out of HtH without then getting run down. Your best bet is to try to tarpit the Walker and get a PK in there.

As above. Note that ork boyz have I2 which will often get them run down by about any model in the game, including necron warriors and gretchin, not to mention stuff escorting them off the board. Taking your chances with the nob killing whatever is tarpitting them is almost always the better option.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
