Not sure if this belongs here, but it is at base a rules question.

I just purchased the DE Sslyth model, and mine came with a 25mm base. It looks small and ridiculous in combo with the model. I looked on GW's website, and it says that it ought to have come with a 40mm base. What is the legal base size the one on the website or the one that came out of the box?

The one it comes with is what the rules say. Might be worth waiting to see if anyone that's bought one also posts what theirs came with.

However the rules don't cover mispacked models. If the website says 40mm then that is what I would go with. The 25mm base would cause more problems in the long run with people claiming that's not the base that it came with because it should be 40mm.

And if its right then everything I said applies.

The rules say to use the base it's supplied with right?

And once again, the rules don't take mispacks into account. It doesn't matter if the rules tell you to use the base that was provided with the model if it was meant to be provided with a different base.

The rules say to use the base it's supplied with, not the base it's intended to be supplied with

And yet again, where does it say anything about mispacks? Repeating the rule over and over again doesn't change anything if it was meant to be provided with another base. It is still an error on GW's part.

That may be the case, however RAW you use the base supplied. Not the base it's supposed to have, even though I'd never do that.

They use a 40mm base, the initial batch were mis-packaged with 25mm bases. Did you get it from a FLGS or GW (either direct or Hobby Centre)? If from GW either call in or give 'em a call, explain the situation and ask for a 40mm base

In this case; repeating the rule over and over again is the proper thing to do(when joking about going full RAW-tard).

You asked about a rule, he supplied the rule, you then re-asserted that it does not cover your situation; he supplied the rule that really does again, you then asked about it again and he supplied the same rule: Mispack or not, you use the Base supplied.

The rules do not take mis-packs into account; therefore neither should we.

We have what the rules say, that models must be on the base supplied(if it is supplied with a base)

Then we have a model that is supplied with a base(that is the wrong size); not matter what size that base was, it was the base supplied with the model. A mispack with a Grot and an Oval MC base means that the Grot must be mounted on the MC base(the bases rules even cover that you may only go bigger).

What the rules do not actually cover are mispacks with no base.

Thanks for the responses, I'll probably go with the 40mm base, but it is scary to see a lack of consensus.

I think the clear intent of the rule is to use the base the model was intended to be supplied with.

Otherwise, what do you do if your buy a box that doesn't contain bases? Do you have to field your models without bases? Does that make them immune to CC (they can't get in BtB)?

Or, what about if you buy your model second hand, and it comes with a huge pie plate for a base? Is that now the legal one you have to use?

Repeating the rule ad nauseum does nothing because the rules are written under the assumption that GW didn't screw up and pack the wrong base with the model.

You are assuming they should have taken this into consideration, they didn't because they don't need to.

The Rules are the Rules are the Rules. "They didn't cover this situation" isn't an acceptable reason to ignore a rule.

The rule actually DOES cover mispackagings. "Use the base it is supplied with" will cover mispackings. You were supplied with a different base then what the website claims. irregardless, its still the base it was supplied with. it is perfectly legal, indeed by the RAW you MUST use the 25mm, but you can put it on the base it was intended to be on and no one will know you are breaking the rules.

No. Once again the rules do not cover mispacks no more than they cover cheating. Please provide a rule that says anything about mispacks. You won't find one because its not in the rules at all.

Can't you just tell GW they made an error in the package and get the right base, or maybe a new model?

We have, ad nauseum.

"must be glued to the base supplied" does actually take mispacks into account

For a mispack:

Was the model supplied with a base?
Yes.

Was the base the correct size?
No.

What do the rules say to do when you have the wrong base size?
Glue it to the base supplied.

Does the rule tell you to do anything different for mispacks?
No.

Then follow the rule.

Of course the rule also allows for you to put your model on a larger base than was supplied; so, OP, put your Sslyth on a 40mm and ask your opponents for permission to use it on a proper sized base(I am sure any but TFG will allow it)

This pack contains one Dark Eldar Sslyth - a finely detailed resin cast kit that comes in seven components, and is supplied with a 40mm round base.

Have to agree with Ghaz on this one. The entry on the GW site does say it is supplied with a 40mm base. So if you got the wrong one either return it for a refund or call GW and request a replacement. Isn't that a kicker. All the finecast models state what size base they come with.

When I bought one from my local GW, they were handing out 40mm bases with them, so it kind of came with one.

All fine and dandy, yet their site often has the wrong statlines posted. There is no rule referring to check their site to ensure you have the proper base. Granted I feel RAI is that it should go on the base intended .... Yet RAW you must use the base the model is supplied with. In this exact situation it would be less bothersome to go with a 40mm base
