Hey guys, newbie here to 40k and dakkadakka.
I have a quick question about wound allocation, it says in the rule book (or at least I am interpreting it as so) that you have to allocate wounds when models in the units have different stats/rules/weapons/wargear.
My question is: Do you have to allocate wounds when a certain model has different traits in all 4 areas, or just one?

I'm getting all confused by this because i've seen so many people play it differently.

For example, a devastator squad with 2 lascannons, 1 sergeant & 7 bolters takes just ten regular bolter hits. Now my interpretation of this rule is that you roll saves for the bolters, lascannons and the sergeant serparately, yet i have seen people combine the rolls for the bolters and the lascannons together, and sometimes people even roll them all together anyway and take the wounds on the regular bolter marines. Is that wrong, or am I missing something here?

I'm not trying to argue my interpretation here, I just want some clarification on it because it is confusing the absolute s*** outta me.

Your way looks right.

Your example 2 Las, 1 Serg 7 bolters take 10 wounds

So thats 1 wound on each model, you roll like models together so

2 saves on Las
1 save on Serg
7 Saves on bolters

I agree with the above.

Sometimes the 40K rules can be kind of confusing.

Only one stat / item of wargear has to be different.

Also wound allocation is what you fo before making saves, which is equally amongst models. You then group wounds into like models, as per the different WS / BS etc test, and then after rolling saves you Remove Casualties from within those groups, never allowing wounds from one group to affect another group

If you do it that way always it'll make the distinction clearer
