Hi Dakka,

I really want to paint my Tyranids like the creatures from Avatar, but I am having trouble figuring out what the best colour combinations are. Anyone done something similar or got any suggestions. I've got a few test models painted in dark blue and the wet/dry brushed with enchanted blue to begin with, but I want something with a lot more impact. I've clearly spent too long painting Imperial armies so i keep falling back on utilitarian schemes!

Help!

Which creatures from Avatar?

I take it since he mentioned blues he'd be talking about the Naa'vi or whatever - the big, tall blue dudes. I think I'm right in thinking that's what he's wanting?

And man, I can relate to the part about painting too many Imperial armies...

Awesome idea! Be sure to do bright dots all over 'em. Perhaps ice blue? Or a 1:1 mix of ice blue & skull white?

If I were you I'd look into the models of Lizardmen armys. Pick the most vivid and bright blue you can find and go with it!

My own recipe: white undercoat, purple wash, enchanted blue, Ice blue. Good luck!

For something close to the Na'vi, I'd say mostly light blue for the bodies, and once you're done washing/drybrushing, paint some darker stripes on there. I'm considering trying that on mine, although I haven't attempted it yet. Also seconding the dots idea-the white-ice blue mix sounds like a good idea, but try to use the smallest brush possible. If it's too large, it might look more like polkadots and less like bioluminescence.

Hey, thanks for the reply, I wasn't able to stick around too see if anyone replied, the Lizardman army idea is a great one, also, cheers for the ideas.
