Wow the Dark age of technology is upon us!

In all seriousness this is a great advancement not just for soldiers but for all of humanity. Did you guys read how fast this was devolved? This is going to be mainstream in at less then a decade.

We as a species are are advancing our tech at a amazingly rate. Just look at the tech levels in the year 1900 compered to a mere century later at the year 2000. Our tech levels have just exploded in 100 years. They say were are advancing even quicker since the 70's.

Just pray that the lobby groups of the usual idiots and religious fanatics that dont want to see such advancement wont succeed in halting this progress.

I would find it interesting to how religious groups would protest this?

I mean we still do blood transfusions even though the Mormons say it's wrong. If you don't want your leg or arm back you can opt out of the treatment. Simple as that.

That's...hot (in a scientific sence that is). ^^

No but honestly, if they can advance this to the stage where they can regrow the more complex stuff and thus ultimately perhaps a whole limb, then were really making progress. =)

Take for example the stem cell research issue with nutcase groups.
Yeah, lets protest something that might benefit the entire humanity, that's smart.

And yet stem cell research still happens. People with moral objections to scientific research these days are usually told to suck it up (at least here in the US). Most the protests concerning stem cells and religion are about embryonic stem cells, but there's still research ongoing.

True BUT...the reluctance to accept this by many idiots is causing drag.

Take a look at the US education system and the perils that assail it just from the religious extremists. Time and time again meddling with education trying to refute Darwins teaching for some intelligent design crap that they feel must be force fed to all school children simply because it says so in an old book written by a bunch of uneducated cave dwellers and goat herders.
The amount of time and resources these "humans" put into trying to change the laws to make this possible and the amount of effort sane people put into trying to make science stay scientific is staggering and could be put to good use else where.

I read through that case and the amount of lies and sheer idiocy was simply not from this world.

I don't know if I'd agree with that. Are religious activists, they're not extremists, dedicated, but not extreme, really that big of a drag? They typically lose in courts, and frankly, the American education system sucks anyway. They're not going to make it worse.

Is it a waste of time? Yes, though rather than bash their beliefs I'd say its a waste of time because they're not going to win. They rarely do.

They are already actively working to do just that in the Texas Board of Education.

They removed certain members of the founding fathers from the history books because they didn't like their political/religious views, for example-- and that's hardly the only example. They forced someone who had given just barely the APPEARANCE of criticizing intelligent design to resign; doing everything they can to downplay Lincoln's role in the civil war; questioning the civil rights movement and downplaying Martin Luther King Jr.'s achievements; removing references to slavery and downplaying its effects; they've tried hard to take all references of evolution out of the textbooks; they've tried to force conservative viewpoints into the textbooks while removing all liberal viewpoints. They're basically trying to micromanage the textbooks to sell their skewed view of the world to children across the country...

Many Americans still don't understand the separation of Chuch and State, and still think that all the founding father's were super Christians. If they can deny these things when the truth stares right at them, removing the truth doesn't change the outcome.

But yes, what has happened in Texas is beyond absurd. It's one thing for people to be taught and forget and another thing not to be taught at all. However. I think I'm speaking more generally than you're reading. Part of the reason why those books will get out of Texas is because the education system in every state is underfunded. Texas actually shows huge flaws in how we do things this side of pond: curriculum is decided by elected officials who are often not qualify to make any decisions about education. What is happening in the Texas Board of Education isn't our system getting worse, it's the by product of just how bad our system is.

We can look on the bright side in that the board over in Texas gets reelected eventually and hopefully their replacements change things back. Maybe they'll actually do something right and reform the system.

Yes but you can get an eReader now and have your books and not hurt your back

I also love reading. My mom really encouraged it as a kid. Every time I finished a book my mom would take me to Chapters and buy me another.

I recently just read 2 books in 4 days over reading week. Best part was they weren't for school!!!

Jokes aside, I think it actually IS getting worse with the polarization of American politics.

American politics have always been polarized. We banned Keynesian economics from schools in the 50's as a communist conspiracy.

QFT. America is too large, though. It's not a small crowded island like Britain, it's a vast and fertile land with 300 million peoples. It could either become totalitarian like Russia or China, or it could Federalize, like Germany. They chose the latter, hence the massive regional disparities. Other American nations have regional variety obviously, but none with the same regional identity as in the United States.

Melissia is spot on!

Besides as extremsist go and the definition thereof, my own view is that you are an extremist if you actively work on shoveling your personal views down my throat by the usage of law or violence.
Thus if you try to subvert an important thing like education and thereby open a door towards brainwashing children then yes, you are the worst kind of extremist scum in my opinion.

By that definition almost everyone is an extremist. The only reason anyone gets involved in lawmaking is because they think everyone should do things the way they think they should be done.

I think words like extremist and all the negative connotations there in are best left out of serious conversation or restricted to actual extremism, which typically is a radical break from the mainstream. I don't think religious fundamentalism are that removed from society. They don't advocate a radical alteration to the system (which would be weird since they use the system). Just an alteration they find more appealing.

I dont agree with that.
I know many people, and even social clubs of like minded who dont share my views and opinions but none of them ever want to cram their views down my throat nor do they lobby organisations who affect politics.
