Our Hero Quest adventurers have bravely fulfilled enough quests to become Champions of the Empire.
We are not sure if this actually means anything in terms of game play or if it is purely an honarary title.

Have looked through the rules but am sure I have missed something

any help welcomed please
thanks in advance

But have you completed the Quest Books?

Ah Thanks Mattlov
Not yet
It says when you have completed three quests.
iirc our next quest is the one where you have to recover gold.
You have the choice to run off with it or be honest and get a reward. If you do the latter you are also called a champion.

Just three quests? Okay it's just an honorary title. I thought it might be like the 'retirement' rules for Necromunda gangs and Warhammer Quest characters.

If your characters become too tough there are some very difficult missions in the expansion games.

Thanks for the linky Howard
We have the expansion but are working our way through the first game set of scenarios

Main problem at the moment for me is that the kids have hit on a formula of using the two main fighters buffed by the elf and wizard and sticking together like glue.
The last two scenarios have been a bit easy, especially the last one, not helped by some poor rolling by the DM

I used to pair the barbarian with the wizard.

Some of the expansions are quite tough, it might be difficult to source the ogres and human warriors. The wizards are all unique, so any wizard figures will do.

One thing you should probably avoid are the rules for hiring human mercenaries. They are pretty tough and quite cheap, a few of these will make clearing out most dungeons very easy for the adventurers.

Here are my adventurers.

One of our lads at the library was given a load of old GW boxes including an Advanced HQ complete with ogres and humans!

Your adventurers look very smart! Nicely done.

Managed to buy two HQ's from the local charity shop for £2.50 each! The second was just missing the dwarf. Was pleased to find one for sale at Games Emporium in Sheffield but a tad miffed that he cost more than an entire box, and cost me £3.50!

Thanks for the advice. Will avoid the mercs.

Well check the rules for mercenaries for yourself, but they are easily abused by smart kids.

I had the expanded heroquest set, with the mercenaries and a sheet with a multi-map mission for 9p in a charity shop. I had to practically force them to take £1 for it because I felt bad, it was only missing the gargoyle, which I already have.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I "repaired" a few of the HQ ogres with bits from the current ogres models, as well as a couple of Ork bits

Can't believe your luck in charity shops - ebay is significantly more expensive

Edit: And the reason I originally posted - I think that the "Champion" ranking becomes available to characters when they have completed 3 quests, not the party. Some of the quests are only won by the person who killed the main bad guy, or who returned the prisoner, etc.

This was the same place that gives away magazines because they can't sell them. I had a stack of old white dwarfs, proper ones now from the late 80s with 1st ed Space Hulk articles and stuff, and Dragon magazines. Again had to almost force them to take a quid for them. It's a charity shop, if I'm offering why won't they take??
