There's a 1000 point tourney coming up this Sunday at my LGS. I'm not used to these low point value games, and I'm struggling with my list creation. More specifically, I don't know what rare choices to take. At 1000 points, should I go with the HPA, 2 cannons, or a single cannon and use the points elsewhere? Note that I don't own a doomwheel so it isn't an option.

The HPA can dominate at lower point games, but I'd go with a WLC (or possibly 2). Cheaper, devastating at range, destroyer of multi-wound models like Ogre Bulls, Ushtabi or Trolls and a LOT less likely to earn you dirty looks!

I think HPA is way more efficient for a tourney, but as stated, people might not like you. There will be less big formations for stuff to shoot with your cannon and thus more chances to miss. A HPA is always going to eat face.

seconded with the HPA, in low point games they dominate, however people may get pissed. Provided it's a no comp tournament I'd say go the HPA

Go with the cannons they are so much more fun.

HPA can be dealt with is the thing the cannons are more random and thus may force the opponent to make odd decisions which could work out in your favor.

The hpa is nice and all but 2 cannons seems to be a better deal from what iv been seeing.

Not saying dont take hpa but at 1k they seem to go down surprisingly quickly.
