So I got the necron codex and the grey knight codex at the same time and been reviewing them.

Necrons have some obvious bad units (at least until 6th i hope) praetorians underwhelm, deathmarks, trairch stalkers, and destroyers but over all a good army (i love it in fact)

Grey knights...um...i guess some of the assassins suck? some of the henchmen options suck, ut henchmen themselves dont.

land raiders?

Im not trying to get into a cheese discussion just more of a...they have good options across the board and nothing is brokenly bad.

Codices aren't written with the writers deliberately attempting to make certain units terrible (whatever Spawn and Possessed make it look like). I can't think of anything that's terrible in the GK codex ATM anyway.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

with the production of the FaQ, the Falchions are a terrible buy.

No one uses them because they are bad.

The Psylencers are bad as well.

Psylencers can kill more orks and guardsmen on average than a heavy bolter. people think they're bad in comperison to the psycannon, which is hands down the best weapon in the codex.

Well, while the choice doesn't "suck", I'd say a GK brother-captain is pretty bad when you can pay 25 points more for a GM that provides an infinite array of options.

Also, I can't really see any reason to take Inquisitor Valeria vs. a regular Ordo Xenos inquisitor, but that's just me.

The best for Grey Knights, is their basic Grey Knight. 20 points buys you the best Troop in the game.
But for some reason people seem to ignore that.

That's because they're far from the best troop. They are awful at holding backfield objectives and easily overwhelmed by hordes.

That's not as much of a boon as some people think. Not to mention you still have to get the charge in order to benifit.

For their points? They absolutely are.
There will generally be *something* better at anything they can do. But there are no contenders who match up across the board.

Can they go toe-to-toe on backfield objective holding with Plague Bearers? No.
But Plague Bearers are relatively useless in 1/3 game types.

Can they go toe-to-toe with all hordes? No. Potentially if they can fire off their shots, and get the charge.
That's why you need to plan smartly with them.

Can they fire a Stormbolter, run into assault, gain numerous special kinds of Invul saves or Initiative boosts, remove wounded models from play on a pass Ld. test, and take a 3+ against most wounds they receive?
For 20 points, yes they can.

If Tactical Marines are the bread and butter Troop unit, then generic Grey Knights are the cream of the crop.

So they're jack-of-all-trades, masters of none, big deal. Shoot them with your shooty ones and chop them with your shooty ones. Purifiers, on the other hand...

The Banisher from the Henchmen seems overcosted for its stats/equipment

Grey Knights have awesome units and less awesome units...

However, most GK unit option choices begin with how yuo wish to run the force and which HQ you intend to use

You can build a really awful army around henchmen and Coteaz. Conversely you can build a really metagamey MSU spam army by the same devices.
