I mostly paint but I would like to do more gaming.

When I'm gaming, I love the game. When I paint, I'm enjoying that too. Seems hard to compare the two separately because they are enjoyable in very different ways.

I prefer sculpting then painting and down the road comes gaming.

I prefer Modelling/kitbashing first (especially for my orks)

Then gaming... love the gaming...

Painting is a distant third. I like my models painted, but find the process annoying, though it dies help with my migraines.

My wife prefers painting, I do her modelling and third is gaming She's a collector more than a player.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts

It really depends. Modeling is always my #1, because it seems to be the most creative aspect of the hobby. Then gaming, because it can also be creative and it usually takes a long time, great way to spend an afternoon. And then painting, because it can be tedious, but there are not many things that feel better than having a beautifully painted army.

I enjoy them all but had a hard time answering the poll. For me, modelling and painting directly increased my enjoyment of playing as they're completely interconnected. Seeing two nicely painted and modelled armies with conversions turns a good game with a nice opponent into a GREAT game.

You can't have one without the other two IMO. A grey army on the tabletop just doesn't do it for me (which is weird because most of my stuff is NOT painted ) and you have to have models to play in the first place.

I used to prefer playing, but playing the same group got old, and a few people kinda ruined it for me, to the point where I stopped bringing my army when I went to the store.

I enjoy painting when I get into it. I have a bug to paint right now, but this semester has really kept me busy. Plus using my desk for a tv and storage leaves me 0 space to paint.

The fourth option: Sorting them out.

That is choosing them, making up units, changing my mind, swapping men around to make different units, sorting through ebay bulk bids to find out how many of X or Y I have, maybe trading a few bits from my mates, then sorting through boxes and stalls at conventions for Z piece, then googling parts to finish the job.

"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all" Mario Savio

I think conversions ( modelling ) should be separated from painting. I know too many people that stay away from mixing the 2 like oil to water o_o

I love all three but do really enjoy painting. It occupies me the longest in all truth and I get a lot of pleasure from watching models grow to completion.

I agree in separating the three. I like the painting and gaming, but not very fond of the modelling.

Personally I prefer the modelling aspect.

There's something relaxing and rewarding about taking a bunch of parts & making something recognisable from it. I also like converting - giving that something my own personal touch.

I don't mind painting as such, I'm just not that great at it it & doubt I ever will be - I just don't have the time to commit to it - anyway I only paint for my own pleasure, not anyone elses.

I love most to build something to be the unit I want for a game. I am happiest chopping up bits to make a claw-wielding killy Command Squad and a homebrew relic blade for the Captain, or carefully adding every single last rad and psychotroke grenade to a Techmarine, or rigging kustom mega blasters for Kans. Of course the entire point is to throw these guys down and go mulch something unclean. Painting is third for me but I still like seeing the colors bring the model to life.

I enjoy gaming, but it cannot compare to an evening spent painting some minis or building some stuff, preferrably in the company of gamer friends, with a constant influx of snacks, a couple beers and a good record playing in the background.

I've always been a painter/modeler before gamer, but I used to enjoy the game as well. Now, not so much. I just dislike 5th edition.

So more time to paint. Not a bad thing.

Great question.

After reading through the answers and thinking about it regarding myself I put it as such.

1st. Gaming - Cuz I enjoy the time with my friends (smoking , laughing, rolling dice, chit chat bout gaming etc... and putting my time and money to use on the battlefield.

2nd. Painting - Because I'm getting pretty good at it and it is awesome to see the grey models come to life exactly how you wanted it. Its a great feeling sitting thier and looking at all your well painted models. Only thing is I have a hard time finding time to paint since I have a kid and a gf. And I have to clear off my comp desk everytime and set up the lamp and get ready everytime I want to paint which is a PITA!

3rd. Modeling - I enjoy this as well but I find it more frustrating as sometimes the models just dont want to stay in place when I'm glueing them and also my floor is grey, almost the same colour as the models and everytime I'm clipping them out of the sprue and they fly on the floor it becomes a real chore to try and find the piece. LOL. I usually have to get the flashlight out and put it real close to the floor on a 90 degree angle to find it.
