Close to Maddness, Far from Safe

After taking a look around dakka, I can't help but see alot of complaints of newbies, either from making mistakes games wise or bad sportsmanship or stand-in armies. That is not to say I'm bashing those threads, no sir, they are all valid and should noted.

What I propose in this thread is that we all look back to when we were just starting out, to when we were making the mistakes and maybe whining about losing and such. We all were at one time the same new kid who got on somebody's nerves I'm sure.

I can remember when I began that I didn't understand alot of the rules and was constantly calling out stuff my opponent was doing wrong, only to told that it was I who was mistaken. It was a hard day to live down I remember but it helped me understand how the game worked and eventually I even got (pretty) good at it. My only defense in the matter was that at lest I took it stride and didn't whine about being wrong. I even had a pretty good painted army back then.

Check out my little ork story I am working on here!

I'd been collecting 40k as a kid from the age of around 10, when I was about 13/14 I decided to learn how to play with my new Chaos army, I went to the tutorial classes in GW and had a huge argument with the guy teaching the class about how half my squad couldn't shoot because I'd modelled them with both hands all mutated and tentacle like. Ok, they weren't WYSIWYG, but in a kid's class, I was being silly and refused to shoot. To this day I still Facepalm thinking about it.

Or there was also the time when you could give SM veteran sergeants equipment from the armoury, my friend decided that his Scout sergeant needed a jump pack "to bail if all his boys get nailed." We all thought it was a fantastic idea at the time.

I remember when I was first putting together my dark angel's bikes I was glueing the shoulder pads on wrong (I was 22), my friend saw them and started laughing and finally told me I gave them football shoulder pads instead of what they were supposed to be. I still giggle thinking about that mistake.

I constanly lost my Assault Squad Sgt to his own PP. I even gave him a Combat shield( 6++) to help. Then I realised he could take armour saves.

How in the Emperor's name did he get an armor save against AP 2?

Thats not how it works.

So i guess your contribution to "looking back to your old mistakes" can be learning how the Gets Hot Rule works.
Gets Hot gets a save, getting hit with ap 2 weapon does not...

You love it you slags!

The biggest mistake of a noob is to assume he is going to kick everyone's arse from the get-go with his shiny new Space Marines whom are never supposed to lose.

And then they seriously propose new rules to make the game properly balanced, usually by giving SMs +1 in every statistic.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I did these things when I was 13.

Also, buying a LSS over a regular Land Speeder.
