In my quest to get nice colored metallics (without 8 applications of a wash), I was wondering if anyone painted a model in a silver color, then painted Tamyia clear paint on top to shade the metal?

This gas tank was painted Boltgun, then airburshed with Tamyia Clear Red, and finally a coat of Future FLoor Polish, all layers were airbrushed on.

That is a beautiful deep red. Did you use several layers of red?

Yeah I think in the end I had about 5 or 6 layers of Tamyia Clear Red sprayed on. What really made it pop was the clear coat of Future on top. In and of itself the Tamyia clear did not have the depth I wanted, so the Future coat gave me what I was looking for. It is really an optical illusion, the metallic pigment is berried quite deep, and all the gloss layers on top really add to that depth.

I can totally envision a bike squad with this method. Pro, would make many car manufacturers green with envy.

Red and green Clear Color both work really well over a gold basecoat. A couple of coats are needed though.
