Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about their experiences with Brass Etchings. I searched through Dakka for past threads, and most of them don't really address my concerns.

Some questions that come to mind are:

1. How are they used (best)?
2. How easy/difficult are they to use?
3. How do the models come out after they've been used?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

they're pretty easy to use if you use em properly. Don't try and fit pieces too large for the are your placing em. Don't try and wrap em around any areas that have extreme curvature because its hard to get right. They look best on vehicles and large flat areas because they are easier to make look natural and not like a piece of brass randomly glued on. They are definitely useful and I've bought a bunch.

I've used both Forge World and other company's Brass Etch, and in all cases it's nice and easy to use.

Simply clip (sometimes they reckon you should use a craft knife but I've never tried) the Brass Etch out and use superglue to glue it down.

If you want to curve it, pop the brass in boiling water for a while, then stick it to your shoulderpad or whatever.

They spraypaint up fine, and can be painted as per usual. I think they look pretty awesome.

I am currently taking commissions.

I've never needed to heat brass etch to get it to conform to a shape. Just pressure.

I have a variety of tool shapes for it, though (cylinders and spheroids for curves and multi-axis compound curves). I can even make them fit onto a space marine shoulder pauldron (not that any of my SM use them - I'm not anywhere near anal-retentive with my rivet counting to go that far.)

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

So are they like decals, only made of brass? I get the impression that they can be used like stencils as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
