Subject: Ideas for magnetizing DreadKnight arms

So I have my Dreadknight pretty magnetized: weapons, waist, shoulder gears. So I've gotten this far and I'm thinking there has to be a way to magnetize the arms, at which point it is practically an action figure. Can't figure out how to make a posable ball joint though.
Any one have any ideas?

Well a ball joint in all directions is going to be tricky, but magnetizing it so you can move the arms up and down is certainly possible.
ball joint too, but I would have no idea how to do that.. sticking two magnets on the arm and the shoulder will only stick those together flatly. -or- you gotta have a metal ball to attach as the joint, then fill the shoulder with magnets on all sides.
probably thinking too hard about this. There might be an easier way. XD
But like I said, moveable up and down is always possible.

I'm having a hard time imagining how to magnetize it to move up and down. I could see rotation, but how would you get an up down motion?
I guess I could put several magnets in there and 1 on the arm and then at least have several poses to choose from.

I'm not big into the magnetizing, but if i remember right they sell Ball magnets and flat donut looking ones. Wouldn't those 'fit' together and provide a joint? Not sure if they make them the size you'd need, nor have i used either of those magnets. it's just a thought.

As far as i can tell they do sell ball and socket type magnets, but the problem is going to be how they are polarized. I believe the spherical magnets are polarized axially just like the doughnut shaped ones. So you wont really be gaining any range of motion. The only application i could see for the ball and socket type setup would be to keep the magnets from slipping apart from too much weight. I haven't actually tested this but I'm just thinking out loud.

Well that's why you wouldn't use two magnets, but one magnet and one piece of metal. They won't polarize each other because the metal adapts to the magnet.
you got these things: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/items/_W0QQ_nkwZsphereQ20magnetsQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ
Having pieces of metal in the socket might work with a magnetic ball-joint.
But I can't speak from experience

For a proper socket fit around a ball, you need at least THREE magnets in the socket. This will allow the rotational motion (and a spherical steel ball - like those magnetix type toys have.).
Myself, I did the bare minimum to allow me the flexibility to use any weapon and gear combination.
Right arm hand socket magnet.
Right hand magnet.
Sword and hand magnet.
Hammer and hand magnet (and greenstuff to sculpt fingers around the haft as you only get the one set of them).
Weapons were mounted on arms. Weapon muzzles were magnetised - psicannon, psilencer and incinerator all magnetise to either mount.
Finally I made up a "personal teleport array" from leftover Cities of Death light fixtures (the cylindrical ones, not the domed ones) and some sprue, and magnetised it to the top of the torso as well.
I can field it with any of the three ranged weapons, three cc weapon options (two fists, hammer and fist or sword and fist) and an optional personal teleporter.
