Actually, as someone else pointed out in another thread, Matt Ward is a subtractive army author. Because he's pretty good at giving an army overwhelming power in every area before making damn sure they have a glaring weakness which shoehorns the army in question into a set of unique, and as a result, interesting tactical options he's actually perfect for the Tau.

This is assuming you like how the Necron turned out of course, because that's exactly what he'll do with the tau: they'll probably suck up close, but be jaw-droppingly awesome at long range with some interesting methods of keeping opponents away from them. Necrons, by contrast, are good at mid-range shooting, have some strong clean-up units, and can protect themselves from long-ranged fire.

And say what you will, I love the new necron fluff. Of course, there's also the GKs so I think if Tau are done by ward they've got a 50/50 shot on that side.

But they'll get some rock-solid rules and well-enforced play-style options.

I doubt they'll give Tau the Death Ray, much less a 72" Death Ray. However I could see some more suppressive stuff.

Ex. Heard a rumor about a Large crisis suit called the extinction suit or extermination suit from a Red Shirt (okay, I know utterly unreliable, but I'll post anyway) that has a rule that gives it pretty much Monstrous creature, has S6 and either 2 Ion cannons or Twin Linked Ion Cannons, so either 6 S8 AP3 shots or 3 TL S8 AP3 shots, either way I think that's pretty good.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

They need to make the larger suits have higher toughness

X8 Chassis - T5
X1 and X2 Chassis - T4

If Chaos can run around with 23pt T5 FNP models, Im sure its not going to be overpowering for Tau to have a couple of 50-80 pt T5 models

3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Don't recall Chaos having railguns , but yeah...

Tau could use something a bit burlier than the current suits.

Hasn't Ward confirmed he's not working on the Tau?

Last I heard, it was Cruddace. So have fun either being super-powerful or terrible, Tau players.

No I'm not joking, I'm really expecting this and have barricaded my home in hopes that the 'Kill Matt Ward riots' that will mark the end of 40K in 2012 on December 21st. They'll probably lynch the guy or something nasty.

Cruddace?

This is the guy that should get the ward hate.

At least we know the Tau Fluff will be the same as it was in the 4th edition codex.

I'd like to see a difference between Broadside and Hammerhead Railguns, the laters is HUGE in comparrison (especially when you remember the HH is 1/3rd the size it should be).

If ward does it, expect the following line:

And so the T'au were victorious against the enemies of the greater good at *Insert planet name*, but then the T'au cried because they wished they were Ultramarines

I'm just here to look at pretty pictures, and be an ass.

Matt Ward wouldn't able to write a Tau dex sufficiently. Their fluff requires a lot of shades of grey and politics, if Ward understands these things he certainly doesn't care about them. Farsight Enclaves becomes Farsight and his honor guard rampaging through the Warp slaying Bloodthirsters and Primarchs

Hells, he can't even write a SM codex competently, even when their outlook and beliefs are rock solid in the fluff.

We really need a new crop of codex writers, i think.
