In a friendly game, do you have problems with going over the point limit, with it just being 1-3 points over?
If you do not mind it being over even that, at what point do you say no?

5 points. If it's 5 points over I say no.

Among my friends and usually other people I play with, it's generally that around 10 over is ok, but only if it really can't be helped - if it goes over because of an upgrade, then that's not really fair.

I usually see whats making it 10 or so points over. f that unit isnt too much of a big deal i usually let it slip.

Up to 4. If it's 5 over, it's too much. Friendly only though, no tournaments. I feel that's pretty fair. ~99% of lists can drop 5 points somewhere-meltabomb or something similar.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

What about if is an upgrade making the points go over by 1?

I'd probably let it slide, I'm very lenient towards other people when I'm playing. No one wants to be overly litigious in a friendly game

A limit is a limit. I'd rather be under than over, and I'd prefer my opponents doing the same.

It is never okay to go over points. Even in friendly games.

Why set a limit if one person is just going to go over points?

If you want to play a 1510 point game, then play 1510, not 1500 with a little extra.

I try really hard to choose exactly just the right things to fit into the agreed upon points limit, I only ask for the same respect from my opponent.

no points over.

If I write a list, I keep it under or at the point limit that both me and my opponent agreed on. Why should my opponent be allowed to go over the limits that was agreed upon before the game.

I do keep it under the points limit, I was just wondering people thoughts on the matter.

I stay under the point costs with my lists and expect the same. The only time I feel being a few points over is ok (not more than 5) is when making a list on the fly at the store to either play at a different point level or just bought some new models and trying out new lists in friendly games. Sometimes it's better to just let those few points go to get the game in rather than spend the extra time trying to fine tune to get as close to but under the limit.

This is generally what I would do also.

I always keep my list under, but thats because most guard things are pretty neat that way (multiples of 5 and 10, you know?). I have no beef with a list for 1500 being about 4 points over, unless there is some 5 point upgrade that they just wanted to take, like meltabombs or something, I'll ask them to drop that normally so we end up under. But if they are stubborn it doesn't bother me, I'll still have fun playing

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Thats one of the reasons it is easier with some armies. Most of the things you want are multiples of 5, so its easy.
For Eldar and Dark Eldar though, many units will end in 3 or 7, which can get annoying when there is a piece of wargear that would be useful, but it is 5 points and you have a total of 1497 points.

In the friendly games I and my friends play, we will usually barter over small point discrepancies. We all end up with equal points, but maybe not exactly the point total we started at.

Probably work

The paradox is this:

If going over 1-5 points is such a little deal that you think it SHOULD be allowed, then why is it a big deal when you can't go without it?

I think that if you can go without it it should be removed, like in the case of the aforementioned melta bombs.
But I really would not care much, due to me being pretty apathetic.

Well, yeah, that's the thing, it's gotta either be something trivial you should be able to go without, or it's something so completely list-changing that it shouldn't be allowed.

not with us lol. it's either equal or under. under pretty much no circumstances do we allow anyone to go above the point limit. and I like it that way

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

I always build my lists to hit the limit right on the nose (Running max squads of Orks makes that pretty easy ) but I'm lenient about it. It doesn't happen often, but whenever Tau hit the board, it's never right on the point limit. I don't think I've ever managed to run a 1500 point Tau army successfully - every time I build the list, it winds up at 1499.

Honestly, it's a friendly game. While I, myself, will get up to the limit and not over, I'm not going to fuss about it if someone else goes over. Never have I been so picky about a game that I decided to say "What? You're five points over? Well go feth off, I'm going to find someone who knows how to build an army within the limit." I mean, really, is it worth getting worked up about it?
