Ok, so there is this guy at my FLGS that plays deaf skullz (?) and he says that because he plays them they allow him to loot any imperial vehicle. So he plays with 2 Basalisks and a Punisher (I think thats what it is. Its the tank that is HVY 20, STR 6, AP 3)

And he says that his Rokkit Boys are nobs.

I dont think that either is true, but I dont know orks that well.

As always, ask him to allow you to look at his codex if you have a question on his army. As it is, this guy is cheating.

I looked through the codex (and even have the ork codex though I dont play them) and didnt see anything that said that he could. But he said they could and was getting mad hen I told him to show me and prove it

Under the old Ork codex what exactly it was that you looted determined what the rules were for it, now they all fit the same profile with the same options. The best he can do with the Basilisk is have it really just get a Looted Wagon with a Boomgun. I don't know if there was ever an option for Orks to loot a Punisher.

While it is true that he CAN loot any vehicle he wants, he CANNOT use the rules for said vehicles in other rule books. His looted vehicles have the same profiles and abilities that are defined in the Looted Wagon section in the ork codex. So sure, he can use a basalisk, but it behaves like a looted wagon. NOT a basalisk. As Ghaz said, make him prove it to you. And when he can't, show him the looted wagon section from his codex.

In that case I just wouldn't play him. I play to have fun, if my opponent is going to whine because he wants to cheat, I won't play him.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I'm curious if you opponent paid the Ork Codex price of a Looted Wagon for these vehicles, or of their respective Codices, and if he still applied the Don't Press Dat! special rule. Either way, he was cheating, as no matter what vehicle model he "looted" to be used as a Looted Wagon, it would only have the characteristics of the Looted Wagon described in the Ork Codex, pgs 54 and 103, not of their respective Codices.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Also, if by 'rokkit boyz' you means storm boyz, he's also lying. A unit of stormboyz may include one nob, but they can't all be nobz.

Unless he was using them as 'Counts as' in which case they wouldn't be Rokkit Boyz anymore.

Maybe check to see if hes playing the 3rd edition book to politely broach the conversation?

If not then yeah hes being creative or woefully ignorant of his rules. Either way ask that he follows the rules as printed and kindly offer to help him make a legal list

There was also an old white dwarf article on all the clans with special rules on how to play them. He might be looking at that, although its obviously outdated

If those were the punisher gun's stats then people would actually use it. It's a 20 shot worse-than-heavy-bolter.

I was talking to smoenoe who has been playing the game for longer than I had and orks used to have a Loot rule where they could do that. Now the loot rule is just that you can use a vindicator in your army and make it a Looted wagon with a boom gun, or use rhinos as trukks, LR as BW, etc. To use a vehicle, it MUST be in the entry, if he says thats not true, ask for the rule in the codex (which won,t be there), if he still insist, don't play him...

Not quite exactly. You could only take one looted vehicle in your army and you had a list of what vehicles you could take.

Orks can still loot a baneblade... it's called Skullhamma

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Funny story about said ork player. He came into my work tonight and said he found out he couldn't use the IG tanks in his army. He then went on to complain about how you called him out all night for cheating.

Because generally in pick up games you play the current codex, unless you specifically point it out?

He also STILL couldnt take those vehicles, even with the 3rd ed book.

Stormboyz/Tankbustaz still wouldn't be nobz, and I'm pretty sure that the punisher didn't exist as S6 AP3 in any edition.
