drop the Assault Squad and use the points to add another vindicator, also make the HQ a libby with terminator armor with goI to move the termies is you aren't going to give them a transport. give the dred a hv instead of storm bolter and stick him in the drop pod (with locator beacons to assist deep striking or gate)

The Assault squad is quite expensive for what it does, it's faster than normal Marines, has equivalent CC prowess, and dies just as fast for +2pts, doesn't get free/reduced price guns, and is a prime target for anyone with nasty things to throw at it unless you've got something nastier on hand.

I find that putting Tactical Marines in a Rhino just reduces the utility of their heavy weapon, I use them to stand and shoot and leave mobility to Bikes, Sternguard in Razorbacks, and Land Speeders. There are other schools of thought on the subject, of course, but I prefer to leave Tactical Marines on foot.

I'd also advise getting more Troops, at 1,500pts you should have 3 or 4 (more in cheaper armies, fewer in more elite armies).

As far as expanding to 2,000 goes, it looks like you're a little low on long-ranged fire; I'd advise adding a Predator and/or some Devastators in addition to another couple of Troops choices.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Tactical squads on foot sometimes work but that is a completely different list. Also mixing heavy choices is not so much fun. Now back to the OP .

Assault squads are just bad. Your sternguard is too expensive to be caged up. Lack of melta coverage. Vindis work best in at least pairs. El Captain is not being used in the list. Termies will want a big gun. The dread doesn't quite gel in the list.

You have plenty of options.
Swap the assault squad for a vindi seems a nice swap.

6 sternguard, 4 combimeltas 2heavy flamers.
tacs with melta,combimelta, missile
or
6 sternguard 4 combiflamers, 2meltas
tacs one with flamer and one melta.

Would give coverage with vindis running forward. Combimeltas on tac. squads are expensive but worth the points when in a rhino and able to help take down some mech just when needed.

Maybe for the elites if you made your dread a rifle dread to provide long range support then he would not be left out of the action. Then maybe swap termies for another rifledread or giving them CML to also support long range moving fire support would be good. I know you have AoBR but the arms for the dread and CML can be found cheaply enough online.

Librarian is a better standard HQ. The captain is good to get access to command squads for example but otherwise the librarian is just better on the battlefield.

Hope that helps . good luck.

First off, the points on your Captain are wrong. If you want to give him a Power Sword it's an extra 15pts which bumps him to 115 and pushes your list to 1505.

Second, you really don't see regular Codex Marines using Assault Squads because they just aren't that good.

4,000 pts of 6th Company Ultramarines
2,500 pts of Necrons
