You might want to check news and rumors, since nobody knows.

No one actually knows anything... (okay, a few of the rummor monger might know, but spilling the beans wouldn't end well for them!)
We all have our prefered list of what we each think should come next however, usually based around what's the oldest 'dex and/or the biggest pile of steaming gak. For example, alot of people want to see Tau next because they are the second oldest book, so you'll end up getting people saying 'tau are next because they're old and suck'.

Most of it though has to do with;
- what does the design team have good ideas for right now?
- what will make GW lots of $$$!

Right now there's 'rummors' for;
- Black Templars
- Tau Empire
- Chaos Legions
- Chaos Renegades
- Eldar

Which of those comes next? Who knows, but we do know that we'll likely never go more than 4 months without a power armour release of some kind!

(Wah wah, this thread again)

I'd say that there's going to be a Marines codex out next, possibly vanilla.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

That isn't likely. I think this time it is going to be an alien race not vanilla marines

Vanillamarines are usually the first codex after a new edition is released, so it might be a bit yet for them.

BT maybe? They are marines, and an ancient codex.

GW often does marine, non marine, marine .. so it's possible.

Tau would be my other guess, as they really could use that update ..

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

No one knows. Just watch the news and rumors section. The next 40k release will be in March or February of 2012. We'll know about 2 weeks before release.

I'm quite sure it's Black Templars.

GW always does Marine, Xenos, Marine, Xenos (throw in IG here as well). The Black Templar codex is also the oldest at the moment, followed by Eldar and then Tau.

Alaitoc Eldar: 5000p

Except that they don't. I believe since 4th started:
11/05 - BT
03/06 - Tau
11/06 - Eldar

03/07 - DA
06/07 - BA WD Dex
09/07 - CSM
01/08 - Orks
05/08 - Daemons

11/08 - Space Marines
05/09 - IG
10/09 - SW
01/10 - Tyranids
04/10 - BA
11/10 - DE
04/11 - GK
08/11 - SoB WD Dex
11/11 - Necrons

Oh and Tau is older than Eldar, obviously.

MEQ, non-MEQ, MEQ, non-MEQ... would be more accurate if you started from 5E onwards and discounted the lacklustre, ten-second job that was the Sisters of Battle WD dex. If GW were trying to stick to a pattern I would place bets of BT being next but I don't think they do - that it's all been coincidence and picking the scraps off of what armies were left to update. With Necrons the last in the line, it's open game again.

Yeah, sign me up for a BT, simply becuase its, as greyish put, MEQ, Non MEQ, MEQ etc,

The BT 'dex doesn't actually need much work, its still pretty competative, thanks to the FAQ's.

Tau, however, need work, there's so much thats "Non Applicable", that the FAQ is bigger than the 'dex!

I'm just here to look at pretty pictures, and be an ass.

I think that BT will not be released next because, if you remember:
Most of it though has to do with;
- what does the design team have good ideas for right now?
- what will make GW lots of $$$!

and in my area, no one uses BT
Or on the other hand, Lots of people will buy them...

All flavours of marines are an easy money-maker for GW. Hence why roughly half the 'dexes in 40k are all some flavour of space marine; Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Templars, Puppies, Chaos, Grey Knights.

Hence also why every single marine kit is 100% interchangable with any other marine kit!

Just because no one seems to play templars near you, doesn't mean that they aren't ludicrously popular in other area/s. Heck, in my area, no one really plays codex: marines, but I still see a worringly high amount of BA's & GK's... (most of which are sadly 'counts as' so they can spam the most broken crap with each new 'dex .)

I believe BT as well. Because if the pattern of marine-alien-marine-alien is correct, necrons aren't marine. So we are going onto that "marine" stretch, so that will probably be next. But, we just have to wait and see.

My guess is tau because we have had all kinds of rumors about tau, but not a thing about BT. the only evidence for a BT release is the theory that GW has to go SM every other codex.

There is cause to anticipate new codices for Black Templars and Tau before 6th edition, we do not yet have sufficient evidence to gauge which will be the next.

Also, again with the apostrophes: the possessive case is a an elementary rule of English grammar, learn it.

Looking at the Rumors section it seems like BT is most likely next, followed by Tau. Right now only BT, Tau, and Chaos Legions have any real rumors circulating, indicating they're likely the next 3 to be released in any order.

Personally I think it will go:

Spring/Summer 2012: Black Templars
Fall/Winter 2012: Tau Empire
Spring/Summer 2013: 6th Edition
Fall/Winter 2013: Chaos Legions
Spring/Summer 2013: Eldar

Well we all know that the order codex's are released in is Non Imperial, Imperial, Non-imperial, Imperial. SO that rules out all the Non-imperials i believe its Dark Angels or Black Templars!

...Erm, 6th ed is July 2012 actually. That's been pretty much confirmed! (well, as confirmed as we can get in this current climate of 0 rummor leaks from GW)

- Templars are rummored to have been done for a while now, they're simply awaiting an available release slot. (according to the usual reliable crowd of rummor mongers)
I'd bet money on Templars being Feb/March next year, or else April by the latest.

- Tau rummors overall sound more like fanboy wishlisting than anything credible.

- Chaos Legions are apparently still in development. Most of their rummors again sound far too good to be true!
Now, depending on how the rummored lesser daemons change, (ie: 'letters, horrors, plagues, 'nettes), along with their pts costs, I could honestly see codex: daemons jumping ahead a bit to bring them back into line and not leave them paying a 33%-50% mark-up for worse versions of all their basic units!

- Eldar just likely need to have Phil's first draft of their 4th ed rules published like they originally should have been!
