Like the title says. Which of the three units is the best all round unit. Just wanted to know what Dakka thought.

For these instances assume they are going up against everything IoM

Please post reasoning.

Khorne Berzerkers were excluded because they arent really one of the shooty troop choices

Considering Plague Marines show up in literally every Chaos tournament army, I'm going with them. They're obscenely durable and able to fight well in both hand to hand and at range.

I have to go with Slaanesh and disagree with the plague marines. You want reasons? I got reasons. Lol

Noise Marines are good at standing back and shooting, yes? They have Assault 2 OR Heavy 3 shots on their sonic blasters, and with a blastmaster can do massive damage with a small template-think krak shot with a frag footprint.
What else are they good at? Running a doom siren, flaming a squad and then charging into combat, with high initiative, and wiping out squads. They are truly a gift as either shooting at range or getting down and dirty in close. Now, here's the problem. They're expensive. At 25 points a model after sonic blaster, and it gets worse if you take the DS or the BM, they aren't cheap.

Plague Marines are great objective holders, and they're also great for being the only squad to get 2 special weapons. But I feel like Noise Marines are just a bit more versatile.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

As a user of Noise Marines myself, I have to say that they cost far too many points when kitted out. Although smaller squads with a Doom Siren or a Blastmaster in them can sort of work, they're quite easy to put down, even in a Rhino. Thousand Sons have a similar problem, with a minimum of 70 points for the sorcerer in charge making them damn expensive, and unhelpful vs anything non-MEQ. Plague Marines are the best bet, as T5 and FNP makes them difficult to put down, and they get access to most of the standard complement of special weapons.

I don't even use blastmasters-too expensive. I have 2 rhinos with 6 noise marines in them, both with a champ holding a PW and DS. All NMs have SBs. I do love the versatile options though-they really are good against all infantry. Except terminator and equivalents.

Plague marines are amazing objective holders. Given my own default tactics I would take them, but there are several contexts where I would noise instead.

Do you want sturdy or hard hitting?

Paying 25 points for a bunch of bolter shots is a bad joke. Sure, the doom siren is nice and stuff but sonic blasters are so badly overcosted, they almost compete with the aspiring sorcerer.

Noise Marines IMO. They're woefully over priced, but they're good at what they do; everything.

I would say Plague Marines. Personally I am not a Nurgle fan and don't use them in my Chaos armies, but you cannot deny that Plague Marines are tough to put down, and are excellent objective holders.

I agree with those that say Noise Marines are too expensive for what you get. Thousand sons are expensive as well, and are really a shadow of what they were in the 3.5 dex.

Plaque Marines.

From a *cough* competitive *cough* PoV, noone cares about statlines anyways, but about maximising the number of Special Weapons vs minimizing the "tax" of pointless models carrying bolters. 2 special weapons in 5-man MSU-units puts Plaque Marines firmely ahead of the rest and almost into Sternguard territory (though they score without an SC-tax). Toughness and FNP are a nice add-on.

Thousand Sons go all the way.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.
