No, as you are sitting on at least 1000 points worth of Lord characters. For that to be legal, you need to have 4-5k in points for the overall army.

Remember your army guidelines.

Max 25% Lords
Max 25% Heroes
Minimum 25% Core
Max 50% Special
Max 25% Rare

Thats good to know but wasn't what I was trying to ask. Is it viable to make all troops zombies?

Zombies in the game are only viable as summoned units. This idea is terribad.

No, all zombies is a very bad idea. It seems appealing to go with loads and loads of them, but it just won't work. You'll lack speed, durability and hitting power. Once your vampire lord goes down (and it will, given it is the only thing that is not a zombie) they will crumble in a hurry.

Very bad idea.

Any Vampire or Necromance can summon zombies with the lore of Vampires.

Spells like Summon Undead Horde give you 3d6 zombies (or healing for your other units), and it is really great for disrupting charge lanes and arcs.

That is where zombies shine. Don't misunderstand me, zombies are good in that role. But as a Core choice to just go all out in, you have far more effective choices, and should invest in versatility and variety. For example, Crypt Ghouls are an awesome choice in 8th edition now, and you can do a lot of damage with them. Zombies are best when they are getting in the way, or popping up unexpectedly. In a straight up fight, they are going to just get smashed. Yes, a big enough block can tar-pit, but since all you have is one vampire lord, you can't do anything with that tar-pit.

Put yourself in the position of an opponent. When all you have is one character and nothing but zombies, the only threat is that one character, and he is going to catch every single shooting attack, spell and melee unit that they can throw at them. Once your lord is dead, it's essentially game over with crumble tests.

So is there anyway I could have a 500 point example list of what your supposed to do with Vampire Counts?

500 points in fantasy is extremely small and limited. Are you doing escalation or something, because as it stands, 500 point fantasy games just plain are awful.

Fantasy is best for at least 1000 points (though even I think that's way too small)

At 500 points you have no real strategy other than move to combat and hope you roll well. You'll have maybe 3 units, and no shooting or real magic, so combat it is.

At 1000 points you have far more options and can form a proper battle plan.

I don't play VC myself, but I would think a good 1000 list might look like this:

Vampire Lord - set up for casting and support
Vampire or Necro - either a hero vamp to assist with casting and fighting, or just a necromancer to provide another Van Hels casting

Many Ghouls - ghast
Many Ghouls - ghast
Many Ghouls - ghast

Terrogheist

That should get you to 1000 quick quickly, but also get you ready for expanding to higher points, as ghouls are the most viable VC core by far.

VC's have 1 very dull way to play right now...
Caster lord who hides in the back wearing his special crown of awsome, big hordes of ghouls who will grind stuff down, a 'deathstar' of regenerating grave guard which annihalates everything it touches, support casters & rares to flavour. Only tactic is push crap forwards ---> roll dice ---> kill everything you touch ---> opponent whines "VC's AR'Z BROKUNS!!1!!1111!!!1!"

Best thing to do;
a) get a batallion to work on for the time being - everything in it is usefull.
b) get a vampire to act as the general & get a necro for a supporting wizard.
c) wait 1 more month for the new book that will hit in early January!!!

Come January, you will have actual choices outside of 2-3 no-brainer options.

Don't forget the +1 to hit banner on your deathstar, so 2+ to hit on most things, and great weapons, regen...
