Hello there,

I'm working on a 1800 pt Space Marine army, but since this will be my first force of such size, I'd gladly appreciate any tips. Note that I'm a rookie when it comes to playing, so please have patience

Here comes the list:

HQ1: Captain - 130 pt.
relic blade

EL1: Terminator Squad (5 m.) - 230 pt.
assault cannon

EL2: Sternguard Vet. Squad (5 m.) - 160 pt.
power fist, combi-melta, combi-plasma

DT1: Drop Pod - 55 pt.
deathwind missile launcher

EL3: Dreadnought - 105 pt.

TR1: Tactical Squad (10 m.) - 175 pt.
power weapon, flamer, heavy bolter

DT2: Razorback - 40 pt.

TR2: Tactical Squad (10 m.) - 170 pt.
melta bombs, meltagun, missile launcher

DT3: Rhino - 35 pt.

TR3: Tactical Squad (10m.) - 185 pt.
power weapon, plasmagun, missile launcher

DT3: Razorback - 75 pt.
twin-linked lascannon

TR4: Scout Squad (5 m.) - 95 pt.
power weapon, melta bombs

FA1: Assault Squad (5 m.) - 135 pt.
power fist, melta bombs

FA2: Land Speeder - 90 pt.
typhoon missile launcher

HS1: Predator - 120 pt.
lascannon sponsons

So far I have only 1000pt of the force painted (mostly hq, elites and troops), and the predator is magnetized, so changes are definately possible Therefore, any help would be most welcome!

Assault squads are actually pretty inefficient, with a character, Dreadnaught, and Terminator squad you can probably handle most close combat. Take them out, then you have the points for more Land Speeders or cheap tanks.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Hmm, I thought they would be good against horde armies (my friends play Orks and Tyranids). But I'll look for a replacement unit (a Vindicator perhaps). Thanks

Personally, i prefer assault terminators to regular termies. I would use a librarian (with termie armour) instead of a captain. Put the librarian in the termie assault squad and GoI them to the enemy. Happy Days

Your units do not really work together. Like nothing keeps up with the rhino and you have a pred undefended at the back.

Some units are not great, as is the captain does nothing for you and assault marines are useless.

Thanks for the insight As I said, I am a newbie who actually didnt ever play a larger game than 800 pt (and that was with Orks). Perhaps I should replace the Assault Squad (or the Dreadnought) with a screening Bike Squad?

Also, is the twin-linked Lascannon on Razorback a good idea, or is it a waste of points? I can as well replace the Razorbacks with Rhinos (thanks to magnetizing).

The original idea that I had was that the Rhinos/Razorbacks will rush forward and will get supported by deepstriking elites.

As a side note, I think sooner or later I will replace the Captain for a Chaplain or Librarian.

Unless a chaplain is in termy armour I would not go for a chaplain. If you think about any other HQ unit would be better contribution to a unit charging into cc, this includes your captain. Librarian is a good standard. Then your captain is good to get command squads and if you need an out and out cc guy.

You should balance the razorback weapons with other weapons in your army. Twin lascannon might work well as you could do with the long range antitank, though it depends on how the list changes.

If things are magnetised you can try a few set ups.

combimelta,melta, missile launcher, rhino
combimelta,melta, missile launcher, rhino
stenguard 6 men, 4 combimeltas, 2 heavy flamers rhino
would a reasonable start to get rhinos rushing forward, you then pick support to protect and work well with them. Maybe a good support would be librarian with gate attached to your termies and the dread in a drop pod. So you get in an alpha strike which you can immediately follow in with the rhinos.

Else 3 tac. squads:
razorback, melta/flamer, lascannon
razorback, melta/flamer, lascannon
razorback, melta/flamer, lascannon
This would be a good start which you can then support. So 4 ML dev. squad would sit well with the lascannons. Then as you have the lascannons and missile launchers you might not want twin linked lascannon on the razorbacks. The dread would work well as it can move the 6'' and shoot with the razorbacks whilst giving them some cc coverage.
