Has any one tried the full 30 kamikaze unit, with the usual BA support in a 2k list?

One-trick-pony or a do-able tactic?

Not for RTTs, but still a competitive local meta. I have the models and plan to do it.

I played against someone who used a full squad of DC and Dante in a fun game once.....It pretty much ended when I one-shotted the squad as soon as they deep-struck.

Enough large blasts to kill enough models to force a morale check, and trap the unit when it tries to flee.

Deep Striking a 31 model unit deserves a commendation for balls though.

Havent tried to mix it into a true BA army yet, but i have run 2 different pure DC armies.

1:
25 strong unit of DC, few upgrades here and there.
3 furioso's
5 DC furioso's
3 rifleman dreads

Result - Cant capture any objectives, but the sheer amount of heavy armoured walkers and the damage it can do is pretty amusing.
Still run the list from time to time.


2: core of the army:
Astorath
6 man DC unit in a razor x3
5 man DC jump pack unit.
10 man DC unit in land raider x2

Result - Good laugh to use and again, no scoring units.
Does raise a few eyes though when using it and the sheer amount of damage it can cause is pretty amusing.
Again, i still run this list from time to time.

Direct hit with an Orbital Bombardment, followed by a direct hit from a Vindicator. They were still in DS formation.

A fully kitted out 30 man DC squad with Lemartes costs over 3k points iirc - that's all with jump packs, max infernus pistols and 2 thunderhammers where possible on each dude. You'd have to seriously trim that back to fit it in to 2K if you want support for your DC as well.

They are fearless.

Im still trying to get a buddy of mine to run an all DC army against my nids and all i will take is a HT and all super hormies....2500 pts of pure carnage.

Shooty dreads are HS for BA. Seems like a decent concept. The Libby is out of place; he should be a Reclusiarch with a Jump Pack to attach to the DC and make them re-roll everything. That's a good chunk of your 100pts right there. Maybe spend the rest buying a couple of Fists for the DC so they can reliably damage land raiders.

I ran this fight last night with the following list:

BA:

30 Death Company - JPs, 5x PF, 25PW - 1700 pts
5 Assault Marines - 100 pts
Librarian in Terminator army - 180 pts

Orks:

2x Big Mek /w KFF
3x 20 Slugga Boys /w PK Nob
Mixed Nob Squad /w Painboy
3x Battlewagon /w Deffrolla
Trukk
10x Deffkoptas /w TLRL and some with buzz saws



Really wasn't much of a fight. He went first, moved up, Death Company charged, his entire army got into assault and lost by nine. Everyone ran, I Sweeping advanced everything. After Deffrollas and the koptas shooting, game ended with him having just a Big Mek left, and I had 7 Death Company and the Librarian left alive.

Make from that what you will, this was more of a test game cause I didn't believe in the power of the death company at the time.

Two major points I realize need to be brought up:
1. I wasn't planning on *fully* kitting out the entire 30. More like 10 or so would have power toys, PFists and the like. No jump packs. The whole unit might weigh in around 500 or 600 points, leaving lotsa other BA units to be included.
2. No JPs meaning no Deep Strike. Dey iz gunna huff it.

@Rex-Nine: I could proxy the rifleman dreads. Nice call.

@abaddon276, rigeld2: Since I don't plan on Deep Striking them in, the clustered formation won't happen and Lash/Oblits or 3 Vindicators won't be too relevant.

And, rigeld2, as pointed out, Death Co. have no fear. I mean, c'mon, it's pretty much in the fluff.

So, going with a walking carpet of power armor, or horde SM, what little tactics and strategies have helped make it workable?

Currently, I am looking at, at least one new necron opponent who has shown the fun that is tesla guns. ... 6s spawning extra rolls!
