Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right section of the forum, but was just wondering what good websites there are for buying miniatures from the medieval era? Like vikings and knights and stuff. Over warhammer and the like lol so need to find something new!

Well for vikings, there is a new skirmish system called 'Saga' which by all accounts is a really well designed little rule set and covers the 'dark ages' - at the moment the forces are Vikings, Saxons, Normans and Welsh (you can buy it from Maelstrom games: http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=cat&cre=min-sga&sou=cat )
Here is a battle report from someone's blog to give you some idea of the game: http://meeples.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/saga-battle-report-12th-october/
For 'medievil', if you want historically accurate knights, men-at-arms and the like, probably something like Perry miniatures would be a good bet. They do a good 'War of the Roses' set of plastic archers which are great sculpts (and extremely cheap!). They also do a range of metal knights.
Might be worth checking the historical section of the forum also.

I would suggest
http://wargamesfoundry.com/historical_ranges/
not least as they have something of Xmas sale on at the moment.
They've also started up a new/improved fantasy range as well. http://www.foundryfantasy.com/

They are similar quality to WF, and the weapons are attached to the hands, which won't leave you with that horrible look the WF ones do, but they are very slightly more expensive than WF, you get more in a box.

As you've not mentioned a particular scale, I'm going to suggest Baccus as an independent company producing a wide range of historical miniatures, often with associated rules.

If you are looking for a re-seller, War and Peace carries many of the best historical figure lines.
Hard to go wrong with Perry brothers - all of their sculpts are wonderful. Gripping Beast makes plastic Vikings/Saxons and Conquest has plastic Norman knights.

I'd go for gripping beast as well. They have a couple plastic sets if you want plastics but where they really shine is their metal range. The price per metal figure is amazingly good.
Definitely check out their Saga rules and the starter armies and figure packs for that.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I'm assuming you want 28's?
If so, Gripping Beast do plastic Vikings and Saxons which are lovely.
Perry Miniatures do Wars of Roses billmen/bowmen and European mercenaries (Pike/Crossbow/Handgun) both again in hard plastic 28mm.
