Subject: Video Report - 2000pt Necrons (2011) Vs. Chaos Space Marines
Hey folks, Kenny wanted a rematch with his Chaos Space Marines, instead of his Blood Angels and this is the battle that followed... I used almost the same exact list I used last time I played him, but with a few tweeks (mainly the royal court being switched around a bit...) and had some wayyyy different results.
Spoiler:
Karn the Betrayer surprised the heck out of me... I was not aware he was normally strength 5 (I was thinking 'normal marine stats with better swings, etc), which pushes him to strength 6 on the charge, but my 'back-up' response for him failed miserably to do what needed to be done... and then their back-up failed.... and their back-up failed...
I honestly can't believe I only got 1 hit out of 9 on Karn's squad with my 3 spyders, not to mention all the saves that his squad had made before hand.
In hindsight, knowing what happened in the battle now, I would have put the Annihilation Barge in reserve to hit the Karn squad when it got out of the Land raider and I would have charged the right side scarabs up the right side of the board around behind him to attempt to either force him toward the middle or to start taking stuff out in the backfield...
Either way, I played pretty poorly on this one, imo and Kenny played well... can't win em all!

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

The Necron list has a minor illegality. Royal Court members cannot attach to Destroyer units. Only Warriors, Immortals, Lychguard and Deathmarks, so your Cryptek needs another unit to join.
Additionally you would have done far better if you had combined those smaller units of Warriors into a pair of large bricks and taken a second Overlord. That would give you two Royal Courts and you could have taken a Harbinger of Transmogrification for each unit with a Seismic Crucible. Between the Tremorstave messing with their movement phase, and the -d3 assault range, your units likely would have lasted a lot longer.

It makes sense though. Those are all of the Infantry models in the book. Destroyers, Wraiths and Praetorians are Jump Infantry, and Spyders are Monstrous Creatures. Everything else is a vehicle or a single-model unit and cannot be joined anyway, so it makes sense to limit them to those 4 units.
