A friend of mine asked me to join I've always been a fan of the warhammer universe but I never got into the table top game. My brother bought me my first unit for Christmas last year: A Techpriest Engineseer. The mechanicus is my favorite organization in the 40k universe so I was quite happy. I looked up what faction he is on and from there decided to build an imperial guard army.
I also want to get into wargaming because I feel it will help me with my profession, I do 3D art, but have never been a good painter, so by painting minifigures, I hope to get some texturing practice as I study how the highlights, shadows and midtones work with eachother. I hope to learn some techniques for painting and am looking forward to seeing other people's armies.

Yeah I Know, I've heard of the amount of money that can be spent on this hobby, I hope im not as extreme as I know some are. So I'm going to take my army building slow. ^_^

Nice intro. Dakka is a good place to start getting you more into the game. Dakka plus this website miniwargaming.com really piqued my interest in the game.

I too started off just painting but as my painting skills increased so did my interest for the game. Playing the game is a helluva lot of fun too. I suggest if you have the time (and maybe your brother can teach you) that you try giving the game ago.

Oh and good choice going with Imperial Guard. Thats what I play/paint and I love them. I have a few pics in the gallery of some IG stuff. Alright man enjoy the Warhammer universe!
