My first time painting a vehicle (except for Dreads) and I dunno if I need to make it grubbier or not, like a thin devlan mud wash over some of those flames to make them faded or something.

Sorry, but when I see a large flat surface, I feel compelled to fill it in. Nothing I can do about it.

Any and all advice, criticism, insults, tips and abuse welcome.

I think the flames look a little *fat* in areas, and the writing looks out of proportion to the rest, maybe try to keep it at a consistant size?

Apart from that I'm loving it

Tried fixing some of the fatter flames on the arse end of the model. Not sure if there's much I can do about the writing, though I'll try. Doodling I was always good at, handwritng maybe not so much, haha.

Looks great, wish my first vehicle had looked that good lol. Do you use a brush or marker for lettering? I'd recommend an ultra fine point marker & take a pencil & ruler & lightly draw guide lines above & below where your letters are going to go so you have a visual to stay in. Also, count out the number of letters/spaces you intend to put down in an area, find your center character (hopefully not a space) & the center of your area. Now count how many characters you have in each direction, then count out that space on the tank. Starting in the center of each write one character in each direction (left then right etc) one by one. Trust me, this method helps alot.

I do know of that counting the letters and beginning in the middle method you speak of, but I am in the dark about the use of markers. Do you mean ordinary marker pens or some kind of special artistic tool?

I'd already re-done this one by the time you'd posted.

I actually quite liked the flame effect on the first pictures.

I think that you need to redo where you touched up the rear (oo-er Mrs!). You might want to redo the white with a thin coat to strngthen the colour.

Re the lettering there are few other alternatives; you can buy sheets of lettering from artshops/hobbycraft, you can make your own transfers using tranfer sheets you can buy that run through printers.

If you do want to free hand don't forget that when you write we mostly tend to follow a straight line and ofetn a top line. If you want a consistant lettering you can put a line above and below to guide you in a very soft pencil.

Also have a look at online shops like Antenocitis Workshop or the 4Dmodelshop you might find a few products there.

Alternatively you can just leave it and remember the rule of 3 foot. Which is to say even mediocre models will look cool from 3 foot away when you are standing over a full games table. This one is my prefered option.
