i am playing a salamanders army and i cant decide what weapons to kit out my guys with.

(i am taking the Forgefather Vulkan He’stan so i get twin-linked flamers and meltas)

i love the idea of re-rolling wounds on flamers

but meltas with a higher hit % also sound awesome

wanted to know what people think

I think you need a "mix of both" option on your poll.

Seems like you'd want radio buttons instead of checkboxes for the poll.

I use twin linked meltas heaps in my army to take down all the tanks.

Depends on the army your facing. Against a horde your meltas will kill 1 guy.

Show us your 1500 and 2000 point lists. We'd need to see your over-all army list before answering, i think.

Generally, a mix is good. You'll probably want a few more meltas than flamers for opening up vehicles.

I would take Meltas, and then Sarges with Combi flamers, just 1 flamer shot per game with rerolls to wounds is pretty good, and flexible.

A balanced mix of both, in proportions dependant upon your opponent's army.

Also, apostrophes are not for warning the reader that an 's' is imminent.

I play against a lot of horde armies, so I tend to go for flamer spam in my armies. There's just something about watching those flamer templates cover a brood of gaunts that warms my heart.

Why did you put apostrophes before the s' in the poll title when you had the good grace not to in the thread title? They're plurals, and therefore generally don't need an apostrophe anywhere in the word. Of all the forums I'm on, this one is curiously the worst about erroneous apostrophe placement.

On topic, you'll want a mix of both as has been said. Meltas and flamers perform distinct tasks and you'll need to combine them to get the most out of it. Just make sure your squads are set up so they clearly work towards one task. In other words, put your flamers in squads with sergeants who have combiflamers and the like, and don't expect one squad to do both anti tank and anti horde duty.

It also warms the gaunts' hearts to the point of ignition and combustion

I give everyone flamers and leave the tank hunting to my Predators. Good look to anyone who takes just melta guns

Bolters and regular close combat attacks from S4 dudes are also good at killing infantry. But they suck at killing tanks. Tanks are cheap and good and ubiquitous in competitive armies. This means meltas are usually the best and most common special weapon. Flamers can be quite good, especially against some particular nasty HtH units which are vulnerable against shooting and may be relying on cover, like Wyches and Genestealers. But those units aren't quite as common as tanks.
